University of Phoenix Online for BSN

Has anyone in here done the University of Phoenix's online program for the BSN? I was thinking about doing it once I get my ADN next year. It seems easy enough. Can anyone give me some opinions on it? Is it expensive? Hard to do? Easy to do? I've tried one online course before, and I ended up withdrawling because I never did the work. However, that was nutrition and I wasn't interested in it at all. I'm sure if I know that I will be working towards a higher degree I will do all the work required of me. This just seemed kind of easybecause they know people will be working while trying to get their bsn so its not too accelerated. They only do one course at a time. Can I get people's thoughts and opinions? Maybe even talk to someone who went through it? Thanks!

University has an excellent program. But, you are wrong with your information about their program. Yes, it is on-line and they know that you are working, but it is also quite accelerated compared to some traditional programs. You normally do one class at a time, but they last only about five weeks, and you have quite a bit of work to do during that time. You will be working on that class on a daily basis, or at least everyone that I know that has been thru their on-line programs have.

I received my MBA thru them, before their on-line programs were even available. And I will be using them for my doctorate, when I finally have some free time that opens up for me.

The classes are 5 weeks long and very intense, you must be very disciplined to do this. They have great tech support and I learned an incredible amount of information from not only my profs but the people in my classes as well.

Teamwork can be a little difficult if you get on a team where only one or two do the work and you are down to the wire. There is teamwork and individual work due on the same dates at times and it can be stressful.

I loved the program and missed not taking classes but will probably restart in May for my MSN. Email me if you need more info.

I too did the UofP BSN and then MSN online - very challenging but I learned an awful lot in a very short period of time also.

I've only completed one course for the MSN program and was surprised at the amount of time/dedication it took. I'm used to attending traditional classes and really missed the "clues" a "live" instructor gives you. I guess my point is this: the UOP program may be much more challenging than you realize. I worked with several people who attended one of their campuses and a few of them had taken UOP online classes and they were the first to say they would rather attend a traditional UOP class than the online format. There are weekly papers (research and more research), powerpoint presentations, and daily interaction with class members.

can you bgive me an idea of how much work you did on a weekly basis? this question is for all of you who have completed classes through uofp.

Hi,

Please keep in mind that I only took one course, so I don't have the experience or perspective of long-term students. I probably averaged 15-20 hours of reading, researching, typing, participating each week. I know a few people that took UOP classes at a campus and they spent much less time preparing, but they did spend one evening per week in a classroom. Just depends on what you like. I graduated the program while working full time and made good grades. You are only required to do 1 preacticum at the end of the program in any area you wish. It worked for me.

I just graduated from UoP 11/30/05. I now have my BSN and I absolutely loved the program. I was nice to go to school in my pajamas. Many times I would put the kids to bed then do my homework. There are no tests to take, there is just lots of reading and posting assignments, power points to do as well as written papers. I am not a test taker so I took this route and I am VERY HAPPY I did. I find that UoP had the time for me and I had the time for it! You can log onto the school website and post assignments and discussion materials and questions from anywhere. I had three clinical classes that I just utilized my community resources for. It was an awesome experience. I truly had a blast. I can give you the name of my academic advisor if you so desire to get more info. My advisor was the bomb! VERY HELPFUL.
