RN to BSN--Grand Canyon University--Let the fun begin Sep 30 2013 - page 3
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather... Read More
Sep 17, '13Yep, thats usually the way it works in group projects--sometimes to your benefit, sometimes not,lol In 1 group project we did, 1 gal just said she would do it all---but usually does not work like that, lol I'm 40 yrs old, I'm not here to babysit others, lol 13 days until course start for me--ouch!!
Sep 17, '13Have yet to ever have a group project work to my benefit---ever. I've been lucky in having one more solid person to work with, while having to drag useless bodies along for the grade. I have never offered to do the project for the group. Maybe GCU will figure out what otherhave, that it only serves to further work those who are responsible, and lets off the hook those who are not.
Sep 17, '13I agree though, always some that slack off! I need to cal my counselor this week, as she wants to walk me through an online class. Not sure why, as I thought that freebie demo class did all that, but it is nice to see they seem to care, lol
List of classes I see on my UN-official schedule:
1 C NRS 430V Professional Dynamics
2 C NRS 429V Family Centered Health Promotion
3 C NRS 434V Health Assessment
4 C NRS 427V Concepts in Community and Public Health
5 C HLT 362VApplied Statistics for Health CareProfessionals
6 C NRS 433V Introduction to Nursing Research
7 C NRS 437V Ethical Decision Making in Health Care
8 C HLT 310V Spirituality in Healthcare
9 C NRS 451V Nursing Leadership and Management
10 C NRS 410V Pathophysiology and Nursing Management of Clients' Health
11 C NRS 440V Trends and Issues in Health Care
12 C NRS 441V Professional Capstone Project
But what I see online at my student portal differs, shows only 8----I hope that 8 is correct, lol Guess I need to email and find out
Sep 17, '13That list is straight off the website, item by item. The school requires a minimum of 30 credits from their program to award a BSN (assuming you have the other 90 already for a total 120). You'd need a bare minimum of 10 courses, then, to complete the program. Seems to be that it's geared toward accepting the max of 84 General Ed courses, then having you take the 12 nursing-specific ones. But I'm sure your counselor will go over your details with you Good luck!
Sep 17, '13Yep--as usual--I had a quick reply back, lol and yep, need all 12--which 2 I can test out of!
Sep 17, '13You mean CLEP? I've never tried that, some people have told me I should do that too. I'd be worried I wouldn't really know what I'm being tested on. You'll have to report back on that when you're done with it
Sep 18, '13My counselor sent me a link, and it goes over what is covered in those 2 classes, such as what one is expected to know, examples of questions aksed on exam--and what sources they get the testing info from. So one could spend the $$$ and buy the books and read!! Lot cheaper than what it would cost to do the whole course AND no papers to write, lol
Sep 18, '13http://getcollegecredit.com/assets/p...r_Bulletin.pdf page 41 (Human/cultural Geography) page 90 (substance abuse)
Sep 18, '13I don't see how those would eliminate one, let alone two courses from the list you posted? What am I missing? Which classes are they replacing?
Sep 18, '13Yes, I agree. Really have not paid much attention. I was told yesterday again I only required 12 classes, and the gal that was to confirm my schedule has not yet got back to me. I have been busy with other things. Guess I need to clear this up,lol
Sep 18, '13At this time I have no clue!! I emailed and asked about these 2 courses they said I could test out of. I have asked numerous times about needing "12" classes and testing out of 2, bringing the # to 10. The 12 classes I listed on the other page were form the unofficial evaluation they did and it stated what classes I required.....it made no mention of the human/cultural geography and the Substance course. Normally they respond pretty quickly to my emails, so they may be off today
