Rn to BSN online while working...

What's the hurry?

It's doable, but why on earth?

I'm taking six hours a semester and taking two years to get my RN to BSN. It's a struggle. But I also want to have a life outside of work and school and this works well for me.

Well the hurry is because the BSN is a stepping stone to my CNM and I'd rather not be over 40 when I finish. Not that there is anything wrong with being over 40... I'm just a driven gal. I quit college when I was 19 and took ten years off to have/raise babies. I'd like to get the show on the road already, finish "growing up" and get into my career!

Sounds like what you are doing is working well though and were I not doing the CNM I think I would have done it that way too. Thanks!

I thought we were talking about me :chuckle ...I quit college at 19 and took an eight year break...I am now almost half way through my ASN. NEXT I will tackle an online RN to BSN and then MSN...I plan to have it done before I am 37 I am planning to be doing 10-12 hours a semester while working fulltime. The past fall and spring semesters I did 10 to 11 credit hours each and worked a M-F 8-5...It was all online so I was able to manage. I think mostly because of my very supportive husband and 2 children. I believe it will get easier once I am working in healthcare and can work 3 12's.

It will definitely be some work...but worth the effort...

Good luck. If you work only 3 12-hour shifts a week you can probably do it. Although most RN to BSN programs are set up for the working student and are offered part time. Hopefully you can find a program that offers all the classes each semester so you can stack them up.

I'm just the opposite. I waited until I was 46 years old and at this stage am not worried about one little year. :)

I started back to school Fall 2003...got hooked...started an online ASN program Fall 2004 with Deaconess College of Nursing. I love online format and plan to do as much of my education as I can this way...I have always been a very independent thinker and a go getter.

I am almost exactly 29 1/2 now (I'm a New Years Baby)...will be 30 when I sit the LPN boards...then hope to sit the RN boards just after turning 31.

I have my eye on doing the RN to BSN online through University of Wyoming.

I am still throwing around ideas of what type of MSN program I want to do...I guess I have a few years to decide...

Where are you doing your ADN?

Yes, I am doing the Deaconess ASN program...I will begin the third semester this August. So in December I will have completed the LPN portion. What I will do next is a bit up in the air.

I have been working on alot of the gen eds I need for my BSN inconjunction with my ASN classes. I have researched alot of RN to BSN programs offered online. UOW is affordable, can be completed in 2-3 semesters, does not require a WY state license, and does not require any travel to WY. My gen eds seem to fit their requirements, but of course that will be determined for sure once I apply, but from what I have heard from other people on this website, they are good about transferring in credits. There is a whole thread on "RN to BSN Online" that lists out many of the options out there.

Is the Cal State Donimguez Hills BSN an online program?

Hey Cheri,

I looked at the U of Wyoming website about the RN-BSN program. Everything looks like you said but it doesn't look affordable at first glance. Like $300+ per credit for non-res? But then I saw a scholarship thing for people who live in certain states with a GPA of at least 3.0 who pay 150% of resident tuition. Is that what you're referring to? That would mean it would be more like $144 per credit (much better). Is that scholarship for a limited amount of people or for everyone who meets the requirements? Sounds like it could be a great way to go.
