RN-BSN Online...Why so expensive????

Nursing Students Online Learning

I have been inquiring at different online courses about getting my BSN...but my gosh! I was so shocked to find out how much these online BSN courses cost..They range anywhere from $350-525 dollars per credit hour and according to most of them about 121 credits units is needed to get the degree...Sheeeshhh! That's about $35-50,000 all in all...Why so much???????

Specializes in Med-Surg, Trauma, Ortho, Neuro, Cardiac.

I go to Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences and it's $230/hr. They are so expensive because they are a private school. This is also what they charge their on-campus students.

The local city/state supported college is much much cheaper, has a online component, but had to many clinicals and other drama for me, so I'm talking out loans to finish my degree. Out of state residents pay four times what locals pay.

But I agree, many of the degrees are prohibitive and outrageous. I think it's primarily because they are private schools, and take students from all over the country.

Specializes in Picu, ICU, Burn.

Tweety is right. Private schools get to charge whatever they want. I had 38000 in loans by the time I was done. It's been a huge thorn in my side but thats the brakes.

That is why I am planning on University of Wyoming. Their online tution is $127 per credit hour...

University of Wyoming

Here are some other affordable (less than $200 per credit hr) RN-BSN programs:

University of South Alabama

Only $187 per credit hr

Fort Hays State University

Only $103 per credit hr

I am sure there are more out there, but these are the ones I am familiar with. Hope this is helpful.

As Tweety mentioned, they are private schools and, really, you pay for convenience.

Is there a local university you could attend for your BSN? It would probably be much cheaper (and made that much more doable with tuition reimbursement/advancement, if you have that available).
