RN-BSN: How many hours is too many?

Hey guys--

I am starting my BSN program and also work 3 twelves a week (I'm also a new nurse so am learning a lot at work). Add that to family life, and I am going to be a busy woman. I'm taking a 6 hour class this fall and am sort of temopted to take a three hour stats class as well, but wonder if it will be too much? What have you guys done that has worked?

I'm not there yet, but I have taken plenty of classes with a family (three young daughters) with a part-time job. I am a good student, but I wouldn't recommend stretching yourself much more than 6 hours right now unless your class is balloon blowing up or something easy like that. I started feeling guilty for spending too much time not focused on my family after a while. I would start the semester thinking I could belt out a whole bunch of hours, but reality set in once I saw how time consuming the material would be, especially stats, unless you have a particularly strong background in it. (I certainly didn't!) Good luck!

Yeah ... I was going to say, if you're a math/stats whiz and it'll be easy-peasy, why not? But if not ... you have a lot on your plate already! :)

Not to put any pressure on your spouse, but that was very factorial for me. When I started back for my BSN I pretty much jumped in full time (12+ hours), stats and all (I am no math wiz). I work full time and have a baby (now a toddler). The only reason I have had any success has been because my wife and her support. Lots of people in my program are part time because of life responsibilies and I understand that. I just wanted to get this over!
