You are located in Texas according to the tags in your post, so I will suggest Excelsior College's distance based LVN-to-ASN program. It is accredited, reasonably priced, legitimate, and a good fit if you are a motivated self-learner who does not need any coaxing.

I was thinking about the online school called distance learning systems and it goes thru excelsior to . have you ever heard of it?

I'm in Dallas area and currently in Excelsior. I like them.

DLSI is NOT a school but a publisher/test prep company. Save your self several $ $$$ and go directly through Excelsior. Distance learning systems is neither affiliated with nor endorsed by Excelsior College. Read the EC website, candidates are warned against depending on non-affiliated test prep companies. (No test-prep company is affiliated with Excelsior)

Distance Learning Systems is not an online school, although they falsely advertise themselves as one to get unsuspecting and/or uninformed consumers to sign the very expensive contract.

I live in Texas, and yes, I received one of Distance Learning Systems' flyers in the mail. The information contained on the flyer is misleading at best.

The misleading thing about these online test prep "schools" is that while they may recommend EC, it does NOT guarantee admission into the EC program. You could end up spending A LOT of $$$ for NOTHING if you pay them and are never admitted to "their" (EC's) program.

Good luck whatever route you decide to take!

What online course are you taking or took

I thought excelsior was expensive and not a easy school

Excelsior is twice as expensive if you add on the costs of DLSI, Rue, TCN, ATP or other prep company.

The most economical programs are county colleges or state schools. But everyone knows this so there are wait lists and high competition for a few slots. Excelsior is not as economical for someone with no credits. EC is definitely not for someone who cannot learn independently with strong clinical skills and excellent test taking skills. There are limits on how frequently you can test and you are dismissed from the programs after 3 failures or failure to progress towards your degree. But you are often dismissed from a traditional program after 2 course failures.

No LVN-to-RN transition program is easy.

Excelsior College has cost some students less than $10,000 for the entire program, depending on the number of previous credits earned. However, the major expenses pile on if/when you choose to sign up with a publishing company such as the College Network, Distance Learning Systems, Rue or Chancellors. Here's my advice: do not sign up with a publishing company.

Are you an independent, self-motivated learner? If not, you would be best served by a campus-based LVN-to-RN program. Online and distance-based nursing programs can be twice as difficult as their land-based counterparts because no one is there to deliver the material to you.
