New to Board and Deaconess

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi everyone - I'm new here, but have read alot of messages on Deaconess. I originally heard about the program from my sister, who graduated from there years ago, but I certainly have gained alot of information from everyone here. Anyway, I just received my acceptance letter to start in May. I have some questions on support classes, etc that I would love to ask of current students. Has anyone taken the nutrition at another school? Also, I'm thinking about starting chemistry at ccconline March 1, but have a question about which class to actually take. I would also love to hear how exactly the clinicals work for those who have already started their clinicals.

I'm looking forward to getting the ball rolling!:)

Let me know what you find out b/c I have to get started on this as well. Erin told me they had recently hired a clinical liason to assist with the clinicals setup etc, but they didn't know what exactly her duties were going to be. I'm going to call the tenet hospitals in my area to see what they say. Since Deaconess is owned by Tenet, I'm hoping they will be receptive. Is anyone else doing their clinicals at a tenet hospital??

Amy,

What an excellent idea, it never accured to me that the Tenet Hopitals might be more receptive because of the above mentioned relationship...I am going to look into the same here in Orlando.

I wonder has anyone had experience approaching an Adventist Health Systems hospital in regard to clinical study through Deaconess? They are big here in Orlando.

Thanks

Just be patient as you are looking for a clinical site. You will probably face some rejection before you finally find the hospital that will work with you.

Good luck!

I just got acceptance letters from Deaconess letter for this summer. I am wondering how do I arrange for my clinicals. I am located in Northern Virginia anybody from that area.

oops! sorry

Shalini,

I have been trying to come up with ideas on how to arrange my clinicals as well...Erin Kelly (admissions advisor for Deaconness) said that they have information, such as a sample letter, that they can send you to get started networking with your local hospitals. Another member here suggested contacting Tenet Healthcare hospitals since Deaconess is owned by Tenet Healthcare...unfortunately the only Tenet Hospitals in Florida are in the south near Miami...but the Tenet Healthcare website is http://www.tenethealth.com they have a listing of their facilities by state.

I also found this great site that hopefully will be able to get me in contact with the right people. It is http://www.campusRN.com

They have job listings relating to nursing...and if you search by keyword "nurse extern"...you will find ads placed by hospitals all over the country looking for student nurses who want to do their clinical studies at their facility. Florida Hospital in Orlando had an ad and I replied for more information. :) :balloons:

Thanks. These are all extremely helpful tips. And I do plan to follwo up on them. Do you have Erin's email address. I would like to request a sample letter from her.

I think tennet is selling this hospital and the school.

Before you go starting a riot, you need to be careful spewing these sorts of "thoughts" on a BB where many current students frequent.

MCP is the only current Tenet facility being considered for sale. The school is NOT.

Just FYI, I don't know about elsewhere, but Tenet is selling and/or closing most of their hospitals in California.

OH that would explain your confusion, we are talking about Tenet Healthcare NOT Tenent.

The same hospitals that Tenet is selling in Ca are the same hospitals they list on the Tenet Healthcare website. There doesn't seem to be any distinction, at least on their website.

Anyway, it might be important info for those who are looking for clinical sites.

Actually, I believe we are all talking about the same Healthcare company...TENET HEALTHCARE.

They are selling several hospitals...many of them have already been purchased by HMA of Naples FL. You can read more about it here...

I am not worried though, my mother-in-law has worked at the corporate level with many healthcare corporations for over 17 years and this is just how the healthcare system works, they buy, they sell, things change.
