Excelsior LVN to RN program - any TEXAS grads????

Nursing Students Online Learning

Has anyone from Texas completed the LVN to RN program from Excelsior? The State BON website does not list Excelsior as a recognized school, yet Excelsior is claiming otherwise on their site. There was a new bill passed by the governor last Summer that supposedly recognizes Excelsior, but I can't find proof of that on the BON site.

I don't want to waste $ and time if I can't sit for the NCLEX RN!

Agreed. I took an exam for micro w/o labs and still sat for NCLEX. Best wishes

Just wanted to add that you should scoot right along if you decide to go with EC. You have seven years to complete the program; it passes by rather quickly when life events start getting in the way. Also, if you drag along, seven years offers quite a long window for problems to crop up with states deciding to withdraw approval of EC or enact stipulations. So, scoot right along and get it done!

the texas bon has been doing this for years....ever so often they evaluate then re- evaluate ec....like a big circle....they keep coming up with the same answer ..which is to continue allowing ec grads to be licensed in texas....... nothing new and they will do the same thing in 2017

from ec's website...

" july 2009...it is my pleasure to be the bearer of good news. legislation has been passed in texas that retains recognition of our nursing programs and its graduates in the state.

earlier this year we informed you of concerns being expressed by the texas board of nursing (board) about the qualifications of our graduates for licensure as rns in the state. we asked for your assistance in contacting state legislators. you responded quickly and with compelling reasons why excelsior's nursing program should be considered "substantially equivalent" to the standards established by the board.

in late may, both houses of the texas legislature passed hb 3961 which includes language guaranteeing licensure of our graduates through at least december 31, 2017. on june 22, 2009 governor perry signed the legislation into law."

the bolded date is what i was referring to. this is the date that the issue of ec and nontraditional schools will be reevaluated. thanks

Hi I live in TX also and interested in the lvn to rn. Has anyone been able to take the TX Nclex recently after finishing Excelsior? Also what's changing in 2013 and how are the clinicals?

hi i was wondering did you run into any problems going through excelsior? did you do that school exclusively or did you do the college network? i have been doing a lot of research. i grad in august with my lvn and want to stay going to school unitl at least bsn before i take a break. my husband was laid off so i really like the idea of going to school on my own time so that i can work and support us both until he gets on his feet. if you could let me know a little bit more about your experience i would greatly appreciate it. thank you and congrats on your achievements!!

hello i was wondering if you could tell me a little bit more about your experience at ec. i am trying to decide on where to bridge. i am particularly concerned with the final clinical examiniation. i have read in several places that people fail and have lost thousands of dollars because of it.

Congrats!!! to your graduation....I am an LVN in LA and I am enrolled into college-network LVN TO BSN but I have decided to go with excelsior LVN TO RN associate since Im planning to move to Texas.. My question is it possible just to study online then go to Texas for clinicals and boards while still in LA..

You can do Excelsior's program anywhere, as long as there is a Pearson VUE testing center somewhere within a reasonable distance. The clinical exam portion is completed at a number of sites in TX, WI, OH, GA, FL, PA, and NY (I might be missing a state in there, it's been a while). When it's time for boards, you can apply to the TX BON to take the NCLEX and have Excelsior send your transcripts to them. I encourage you to contact Excelsior or search this forum for more info. Excelsior's website has a lot of good information, like the nursing catalog that explains the program. Good luck!
