Cal State San Marcos online RN to BSN

Anyone have any experience with Cal State San Marcos online RN to BSN program? I am looking at online BSN programs but don't find any reviews of this particular one. Thanks!

Hello,

I am currently enrolled in the program. It is new, fast past, and there has been lots of kinks they have been attempting to work out. With the improvements they have been making I would recommend the program.

I was wondering if you ended up going to the Cal State San Marcos for your RN to BSN.

II'm also wondering the same? I was going for but WGU requires you to start working as an RN already before applying to their RN to BSN program

I am almost done with CSUSM it has been very difficult for me but I got it done. I am unsure if I would recommend though, it was doable since I'm doing it but it is more time consuming than I thought it would/should be. There are weekly discussions, quizzes, group work, individual projects per class. For a leadership course you have to volunteer 40 hours in 8 weeks (the difficult part is that you have to locate your own site). There is a community course that you have to teach a community center (again you have to find a site yourself), four different public health topics in 8 weeks. On top of that you still have quizzes, discussions, group projects and projects to do. Grading is the only thing that is fair but you must do everything on time and follow the grading rubric.

So far, I am looking at CSUDH and CSUF for their RN to BSN program. Has anyone attended those schools or any other RN to BSN online programs and would you recommend it?

WGU's program has no group work, no weekly discussion, and it's pretty much on your on pace. People can finish in 6 months if they're highly motivated. Classes (if you have a good background), like nutrition, can be done in 2 weeks or less. Also, if you work a Cedars Sinai, I think they have a partnership and you get tuition reduction/reimbursement.

Would it help to find preceptors/clinical sites before we start the program, and then have it all ready when we are actually in the program?

I'm really leaning towards CSU Dominguez Hills because they actually give you a list of sites contracted with the school, but the student still needs to call them to arrange the clinical hours. Also CSUSM's online program is newer and CSUDH has been around longer. From the very very few reviews I have seen for CSUSM the program is still trying to work out their kinks. I just want to get my BSN in the quickest and easiest route with the lead headache lol. I already have a BS degree from a CSU so I want to stay in the system because I won't need to take additional classes like if I had to go to or UTA.

What drew me to CSUSM was the 6 starts a year (because its part of extended education) and it would actually cost less than being a regularly admitted student. CSUDH let's you take classes before actually admitted into the program (also through extended education/open university) so the cost would be less but it appears CSUSM let's you control your schedule more and classes are only 8 weeks long versus 16.

I was told by alumni 1 year of college Spanish is required for graduation.

I took 2 years of Spanish in high school. My previous colleges accepted that to count towards the 1 year of college Spanish.
