No group projects, admissions on 1st and 16th of every month, very reasonable, CCNE, and very personable......my nurse radar is wondering if there is a shoe that is going to drop??? Really I am very impressed, never heard of them till today but but it gives me a whole new prospect on school. Oh and for those who do not know.. you get into program with you ADN degree.. was told no taking extra stuff for no reason..right into nursing classes!
Question: If they can do this why are others such demanding for so much $$$???
I was told they assign GPA and having read thru their handbook it seems to refer to that.

Hey nlmoore...just emailed you about Aspen...and other stuff. This does look like a great program. They require 50 credit hrs of liberal arts classes...taken before you come to their program. They assured me I would likely have met those requirements already. And the ADN does need to be at a 3.0 min since it's a grad program. Cool! Just learned about this program last night.

I am a student at Aspen in the RN-MSN program and there is no shoe that is going to drop. The tuition is low because there is financial incentive to pay ahead. They are able to do this because of low overhead and no advertising. The dean and instructors are fantastic. Ther are NO group projects!!!! I was interviewed by the CNCC and they were impressed with the students and the institution. Aspen is taking the future nursing shortage seriously and have made a committment to do something about it.
Can you tell us more about the course requirements, degree of difficulty, grading, etc. I am interested in this program but don't have a grasp on the evaluation of course work, etc. Can you share what a typical course module might resemble? Thank you in advance!
They specifically told me they waive any requirement as long as you have Assoc in Nursing!! and need 3.0 GPA. I have plenty of credits just not in some of the specific they listed like art or music.. told me no problem....said that was just a guideline.
This is waaay cool! I realize the nursing program is fairly new but that may be a blessing. They really do seem to care about answering your questions, not putting you off until they get this or that. I need to attend a school I can notify and get a response. This one wins hands down.

I am really pleased with this program. There is no other "shoe" to drop; all the good impressions you get through the inquiry and admissions process carry over to the academics. There are no group projects and you can enter the program about as soon as you are accepted (courses begin on the 1st and 16th of each month). I was scared to death for about two weeks because of all the other "irons in the fire" that I am currently tending. I mentioned my concerns in the online discussions and my instructors and fellow students offered tangible support, humor, and a myriad of good suggestions. I have found hat if I work to complete one module (set of assignments) per week I stay on top of it. This MSN program is CCNE accredited, interesting, practical, inexpensive and attainable. It is small and personal. I can thank allnurses.com for the discussions that made me aware of Aspen; I had no knowledge of it till I found it mentioned here a few months ago.
By the way, Emma in Admissions is so helpful and was very patient with my hundred questions. :)
Nizhoni, thank you. I am about ready to go ahead and apply to this intriguing program. Are the modules graded as you go so you know how you're progressing in the course? I've never even used APA formatting...haven't done a research paper per se in over 25 years! Yikes...are you using PERLLA? This is the part that freaks me out the most. I don't mind gathering information and writing...it's the final product! Thanks for any feedback!
Hi Mtsteelhorse,
We used APA formatting when I was a nursing student--at about the same time dirt was born! Aspen provided templates and samples which made updating my knowledge base quite a bit easier, but just recently I went ahead and purchased the latest APA publications manual (6th edition). It helped me with the unusual situations regarding citations, etc. Since the purchase I have read that there are a few errors in the 6th ed., so when I find out what those are, I will be happy to pass that information on to you.
The modules are graded, but not quite as quickly as I am moving through them. But that's ok; the modules are constructed very similarly to one another in this first course, at least, so what I learned from doing the first module I have simply applied to my subsequent work. The grading rubric is very clear and the instructor feedback is specific and really helpful. Our instructor even provides an audio assessment of our work, as well as written feedback. I made a lot of APA errors in my first paper but only a few since then. I am not using any online aids for APA, just learning along the way. That seems to be working well.
Hope I see you on the Aspen message boards! A few more students have already signed up over the last few days. I believe you mentioned that you are going for your NP after this. Which NP program are you planning to attend?
All the best to you!

Nizhoni, I am on anther thread about Aspen as well. I applied last evening on line. Is there a $75 application fee at another point in the process? I have to figure out 3 letters of recommendation and work on the goal paper to apply...ugh. I would like to have NP school as an option when I earn my Masters. I would like to get the MSN in under 3 years so may take 2 courses at a time in the wintertime. The school I would likely attend is Montana State Univ in Bozeman. I just want the option...I like learning and feeling like I'm developing myself personally and professionally. I still have kids at home so their lives are paramount in my schedule. We'll see what comes from this. It feels good to be excited!
