Any ideas to make fake arm for fake IV site for my at home practice lab for CPNE

go to toys r us and go and get the foam floater you use in the pool. it looks like a long foam pole or soething you use while swimming. thats what i used and it worked out for me.

Great idea I hope they still have it and its not out of season

If you can't find one, try ebay & search fake arm. I ordered a partial latex arm with full hand from a magic/gag tricks seller for around $7. good luck

Not my idea, but it worked for me...............

Roll up a big towel, and then put the tubing into the rolled up part of the edge. That way anything you inject for iv push goes right into the towel.

AND you can use the rest of the towel as your injection sites for sq and im practice.

The actual practice item can be purchased, but I imagine they are expensive. I would just go with the rolled up towel.

i used rolled up towel with a 10 ml vial taped to it. Then I attached tubing to the vial. Pluses - you do not end up with a wet towel, all the liquid goes into the vial. When it's full, I would just pull it out with a syringe and then push back into the "Sterile NS" vial :)

what kind of tubing did you attach to the vial

I used multi-dose vial adapter. Was practicing only with it for a couple of weeks. then I attached an IV extension. Looked something like this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/6183wQlV3zL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

oh where can I get that do you know

i did not use a fake arm. i used that "iv extension" (exactly in the pic on the above link) and attached it to a regular iv tubing that drains to a foley bag. i "borrowed" some supplies from work. i taped the iv extension onto my table and attached an id bracelet with it. then when i practice at home, i id the patient with my kardex and touched the iv line and "assessed" iv site and verbalized "no edema". i got very creative with my supplies because even my iv mini bag drains to the same foley bag.

Foley bag :) Fancy :) I used a trash can, lol. And my Christmas cookie bowl as a biohazard container (I needed something red) :))
