Nurses Criminal

Published

I just wanted to share a situation i am currently experiencing. I was arrested 10 years ago for battery, which most of what was written in the police report was from the person who attacked me. The case was thrown out in court and the deposition is nolle pros. I went through the expungment process to delete the record, which was ordered.

I am in the process of starting nusing school, but wondering if this would prevent me from, gaining employment. Also a few months ago i applied for a job at a health care facility, and was denied employment, because the arrest showed up in the background check. Now i know people make mistakes, some good people. But what happened to innocent until proven guilty ? I can imagine the frustration some of you feel.

These are just questions we can't address. Only your board of nursing can do so and they make decisions individually.

In most states there are some crimes that are an automatic no for licensure but again, your BON is your best source.

this may have been an excuse. who knows. i would check with the court and see if the expungement was completed. having a conviction expunged is one thing....having a arrest with no prosecution i believe is different.

understand that right now the hiring environment is very tight and they may use any excuse to weed out an applicant. by the time you would graduate, i would believe that they will be once again screaming for nurses and handing out bonuses....

only time will tell.

good luck!
