Anyone with 2 DUI's? ? ? Please help....

Hi everyone. I need to ask this question to see if anyone has an answer. This des not have to do with me directly but me and a friend were accepted into a nursing program for Fall 2009 . I am asking this because this friend of mine recently confesed that he has 2 recent DUI's on his record! I was very upset becasue after countless hours of studying with him through micro, now he tells me he might not be able to continue with nursing RN program. I honestly do not have any real idea on what the California BRN is going to decide on his case once he sits for the NCLEX, but my guess is that he should stop now and not contunue to waste my time (by stydying with him) and anymore of his money by going through an expensive ELM program. Does anyone have any experience with DUI's on their record while they were going through nursing school? How hard is it to get licensed? I wish him the best of luck but really I am upset because I feel like Ive been wasting my time with someone that made some seriously wrong decisions (2xs). Any input on this will be greatly appreciated.....

Moved to the nursing with criminal history forum

Questions we seem to be encountering more and more often have to do with the effects of a criminal history on nursing licensure:

Is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a criminal history?
Is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a MIP, DUI, or other related charges?
What happens if you are charged or convicted of a crime after licensure?
Can I go to nursing school and/or be licensed if my record has been sealed or expunged?
Will I be able to go to nursing school with a criminal record?
What can happen if I receive a MIP/DUI/DWI or other charge while still in school?

These are questions that the members of allnurses.com cannot answer. The only reliable source of information is your State Board of Nursing. Each case is dealt with on an individual basis. People through out life make mistakes and if they have made changes then it is a shame to give up on them

This is what is on the BRN website http://www.rn.ca.gov/applicants/lic-faqs.shtml#disc
