Length of time a job is posted...

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Had a hard time coming up with a title here...But what I am wondering is this:

I interviewed last week for the "perfect" job. Now I am of course attempting to analyze every little detail while I wait to hear back. This particular job has been posted for several months (think 2011). I just saw it and applied early in April, then I emailed the manager last Sunday. Monday morning she called me for an interview, and we met Wednesday (proof that just waiting around for HR is useless).

The idea that they may be interviewing other candidates is of course the biggest thing I'm worried about, since I have no experience in this area of nursing. However, I'm thinking that the rapid sequence of events is a good sign, combined with the fact that the job has been posted for a while.

Any thoughts? I'm trying to hold out for at least a week to follow-up (aside from a thank-you letter, already did that), mainly because that is how long the manager said I should wait, since HR "operates on a different schedule than the rest of the world." (her words) :lol2:

I think your golden. It is an old opening, and hasn't been filled yet. Relax and if you don't hear from them, call next week and get the good news.

Specializes in ED, ICU, MS/MT, PCU, CM, House Sup, Frontline mgr.

Another scenario may be that the job was filled many times since being posted, but the position remained per HR or the request of the manager. This is the case in my current department. We have three openings that were filled last year but a few of my co-workers have left since the new employees were hired last year for personal reasons. Therefore, the impression I have heard from other nurses is that we are hiring and are desperate to fill those positions. That impression is dead wrong. My mangers have no trouble filling the positions when they are actually available.

In any case, whatever the scenario may be it really does not matter. What matters is that this position is going to be a good fit for you and your career. In fact, I too believe it is a good sign that the hiring managers are interested. If you get an offer, then you know for sure! Good luck!

Thank you both :) the idea that the position is "ongoing" to be filled when needed makes a lot of sense. The waiting game is killing me, though!
