Job opportunities, thinking of relocating.

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hi all,

I'm a RN with BSN degree and have 5 years of Medical Surgical floor experience. I'm currently working on my Med-Surg certification. My GF is a RN/BSN as well with 6 years of Telemetry/PCU floor experience. She went to nursing school in Virginia and got her BSN at George Mason Univ. Worked her 1st 4 years in VA until she moved back here to Guam in 2009.

We currently live and work in Guam, a tiny island with about 170,000 people. We work at the only civilian and government run hospital here. (The other hospital is a US Navy Hospital). In about 3 years, there will be a brand new private run hospital opening up here.

I thought of living and working here for the rest of my life but lately, we've been thinking about relocating stateside due to many reasons. I need some info on how the job market is for RN's with our experience level in the states. We're looking at possibly Hawaii, California (southern), Las Vegas, Virginia, Maryland.

Thanks in advance.

Have you guys thought about going w/a travel agency? You could take assignments in the places you are interested in relocating to first to see how the area fits you both then take it from there. Good pay, travel expenses paid and foot in the door somewhere. Good luck!

Hi myk_RN, my name is Leah, I'm currently working as an ICU nurse in a small hospital in Nevada but we will be relocating to Guam in Feb. 2014. I know this post is a couple years old, but I was just seeing if you still work out there. If you do are there still job opportunities for RN's? I've been hearing that it has been hard for people to find jobs out there for a while. I would love to hear anything you have to tell me about Guam life and nursing in that area.

Thanks!
