Follow up on interview?

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

It's been 3 weeks since I interviewed for a position at a big hospital and I haven't heard anything. I interviewed with HR, the hiring manager, and assistant nurse manager for the unit. The evening after the interview I sent the thank you notes via email. The hiring manager replied and told me to feel free to contact her with any questions. After 1 week had passed since the interview, I sent follow up emails saying I was still very interested and enthusiastic about the position. I didn't get a reply from anyone. Today is 3 weeks since the interview and yesterday the hospital posted several positions, including the one I interviewed for (but a different posting ID # and the one I applied to still remains on the site as well).

I felt the interview went really well, especially with the nurse managers. The HR person interviewed me first and grilled me with a million tough questions, but sort of coached me what to bring up based on my answers when I spoke with the nurse managers.

Should I follow up again or let it go? Their website says it could take up to several weeks for correspondence. If you think I should, then should I call or email HR or the nurse managers or both?

Should I apply for the new positions they posted?

Yeah I'd hate to be the bearer of bad news but if it's been 3 weeks I would look elsewhere. If they intended to hire you they would have called you back within days, because they don't want you to look elsewhere. Personally I would let it go. Nursing isn't what it used to be, employers are very picky. I can't even count the amount of interviews I've gone to and even though I thought they went well, I didn't get the job. Ironically, I thought the last interview I went on didn't go so well, but I did get the job. As for applying for a position in the same hospital but a different unit, my opinion is as follows: I have experience, credentials, and a huge amount of experience, so they didn't not hire me because I'm underqualified. So why didn't they hire me? Maybe they didn't like the color of my lipstick or my perfume. Maybe they didn't like the color of my pants or brand of shoes. If they didn't hire me based on something as juvenile as that then I really don't want to work for them.

You could always give them a call and just say that you are inquiring about the status of your application. I interviewed for a position in September and didn't end up getting an offer until mid-November. The hiring manager said it was due to RN's transitioning to different positions on the unit. You really never know what's going to happen so there's no harm in calling and asking. :)

I waited a month after my interview to receive the offer so you never know but keep applying to other places because you never know what will happen

Follow up with a phone call at this point.

If it's a state funded hospital, it could take months! Follow up AND keep applying for other positions. Always do what is in *your* best interest. You haven't been told "no" so, find out what's going on.
