Are there good home health agencies?

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I'm a new grad looking to work in pediatric home health in the Phoenix area. I have been doing some research about the best companies to work for but I seem to only find negative things. For example, almost every company I find does not offer benefits such as health insurance or PTO. Many people have said that it can be very difficult to find cases that meet their schedule. They also seem very frustrated with staff and the communication system across the board. My question is- Is there a good pediatric home health company that offers adequate pay and hours, proper benefits and happy staff?

Home care is a VERY low margin (profit) business and reimbursement continues to shrink. Unless they are part of a larger organization, agencies simply cannot afford to provide benefits or training for new staff. There is not a good setting for a newly licensed nurse because of the lack of immediate support/supervision.

Earlier in my career, I worked with a very large agency to design & develop their orientation & training programs. As a result, I learned how very different this environment is. I have enormous respect for Home Care nurses and how well they are able to deal with those challenges.
