Slipper Socks question

Nurses Safety

Published

Weird question - but when is the right time to get slipper socks on a patient after they get out of the shower? I work with OT/PT inpatients (mostly hip surgery, lower back surgeries etc) Most of them have a walker. We have seats in the shower but can't really put them on in there or they will get wet. Do I let them walk all the way to the bed without anything on their feet?

Thank you!

(Can you tell I'm new to all this! :D)

Place a towel on the floor, then dry the pt's feet. Make sure you dry between toes. Then put the socks on. NO BARE FEET on hospital floors if possible!

Great idea! Common sense, but I never thought about it. Thank you so much.

I agree with the poster above, dry the floor as best you can and then put them on. Slipper socks should definitely be on in the hallways/rooms at all times, not only as a safety issue, but I shudder to think of the things that have been on those hallway carpets at my facility. I personally wouldn't want to walk on them barefoot! lol :D

bare feet on hospital floors increases the risk of falls, not to mention it is GROSS....imagine all of those germs that are now on your patient's feet

I dry the floor and sing "The Twist" while doing it. My residents get a kick out of seeing me make a fool of myself :smokin:
