My 9 year old patient was raped and required surgery

I currently have a 9 year old girl I am taking care of on unit. She was raped resulting in surgical repair to entire pelvic floor and also needed a colostomy. As I change her sheets and such I just don't know what to do. I cry everytime I walk in there. I just want to hold her. She isn't allowed visitors and she is so scared. My heart is breaking. Any advice?

This is exactly why I could never work pediatrics. Or ER. I would be too tempted to shoot someone...

God bless all of you who can help these babies, because I'm not strong enough.

I apologize for not leaving an update sooner I didnt receive an email letting me know this had been reactivated. We are doing great. Relocated to another state two yrs ago for my dream job through St. Judes. Tori has grown into a beautiful girl who blesses my life daily. She is happy and surprisingly well adjusted. She still has weekly therapy sessions but she likes going. She recently won 2nd place in her school Science Fair. We stay extremely busy but also have a very fulfilled life. She is my hero

Aww ~ so glad to hear. Sounds like you're living the dream.

What a great outcome--for all of you. I'm so glad you were able to be there for this little girl. Sounds like your family is happy and healthy and thriving.

I don't remember. Were you able to formally adopt her?

Thanks for sharing your story.

Yes I did adopt her

Yes I did adopt her

That's wonderful. Now you all know she's yours forever. No one can come in and undo the good that has been accomplished. That kind of safety and security is a like a mantle of peace over your family.

Blessings on all of you, now and forever.

You got hugs here, Sweet Soul. I have to share this even though your post left me in tears. I had the opposite patient which I had to care for. The one's that were the offenders. The Sons of ******* that were the rapers of children. They were in my care because in prison they cut their wrist and said they were going to kill themselves. They weren't suicidal, they knew if they remained in prison they would be dead. Prisoners have a very crazy social structure. If you kill a cop[ or lawyer or judge you are treated like a king. You rape a child you are dirt. you better watch your front and your back for you will get rape yourself. any way I had to call them sir or else they would say that you disrespected them. so I feel your pain.

Now that I could not handle. I would be too tempted to "help ease their pain"
