PICU VS ER

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

HI! I graduated in December 2013, got my license March 2014. Interviewed this past Monday for a new grad residency program in the ER at a smaller community hospital where I've been volunteering in the ER for the past 2 years. I feel the interview went well and I am awaiting their decision. Meanwhile I have an interview for my ultimate dream job in my ultimate dream location this upcoming Friday. It is at a bigger hospital in the PICU. I had to move away to go to school and I have always dreamed of finally moving back to the particular location where this hospital is located. Incredibly excited to get to interview at this hospital and it would truly be a dream come true to be able to work there.

I am worried, what if my first interview calls to offer me the job, on the same day that I go for my interview at my dream job?? I am not sure how to handle it. Can anyone give me some advice. I've heard two things.

A.) Just accept whichever offers first, ER is a great place to build skills, there's plenty of positives about the hospital...

and

B.) Go after your dream. (I've passed the screening interview and will be going on the hour long interview)

Of course I do not want to lose out on opportunity to just get started, but I want to be happy with my decision.. Can anyone give me some advice? I would really appreciate it. Thank you

Hi there!

First of all, Congratulations :) In my opinion, you should focus and go to the interview on Friday and give it all your best...Then depending on how the interview goes (probably well since you really want it)...decide on your next step..But since you have volunteer experience in E.R. that is a PLUS for you in any new-grad position. Good Luck

If you are offered a job, you can tell them that you need so many days to think about it.
