Offered Interview 5-8's. Currently Work 2-3 12's

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I recognize this may have been talked about.

I have been offered an interview for a Navigator position with the same company I work for 5 days 8 hours. I currently work 5 12s in a 2 week pay period. Clear advantages are more time off for the 12s. Clear advantages after having been a nurse for 23 years are earnings raise of $5/hr, decreased stress and the solid future of Navigation. No more long work hours but 5 day?!

If you have made this change or your thoughts in general are appreciated. Interview is this Wednesday.

I actually kind of miss 8 hour shifts. I worked acute care but I was a float nurse and could work 8 hours but some weekends though. As I've also had a non-nursing Mon-Fri job before I became a nurse. I felt had more of a life when I worked 8 hour shift. I could meet friends after work for dinner, go to plays and concerts. I slept better. I like having days off during the week but when I'm working 12's back to back I work and sleep. Nothing else.

I hear that. 12's are long and harsh....yet the ICU is a very satisfying position. A couple of the docs told me that they would be happy to provide a reference and tell them that I was awful and not to hire me.;)
