Interview help for an old new grad

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I got my RN in 2008. I worked for 3 months (pregnant) and then quit after finishing my residency program bc I had the baby and my husband was deployed and I just couldn't get it together (not an excuse, I know). In any case- I have an interview next week and I am going over all the Interview articles posted but am unsure about how to answer some of them since my experience was SO long ago. As far as the "tell me about a time when," and also the "where will you be in 5 years?"

I did take a board refresher course that had contact hours in 2013. Should I go off that experience? Basically for the last 6 years I have been moving all over the country and raising our son so I really have no recent work experience to draw from. Also, we just moved to the area but I have no idea when we will be moving again. So I can't exactly lie and say that I would see myself with the same company, right? I do wish to further my education so maybe go with that?

I know I'm not the first person to go back to work after a long break but I think having little to no experience is what is making answering these questions harder.

Thank you!
