Nurses Job Hunt

Hi everyone!

I'm a newbie who just got licensed in May :D I thought I was never going to get a job because of the countless online rejections I got left and right...but somehow out of the blue I got called by the unit nurse manager about coming in to speak with her about a position! I hope she doesn't think i'm naturally a space cadet because I was so excited I had trouble following what she was saying on the phone! Anyway, my interview is tomorrow for a Nursery intermediate position in the NICU. I'm extremely excited about it but I also feel extremely stressed because I don't want to blow it. I have all of my documents and my outfit ready...probably over prepared and ready for anything. Just wanted to see if anyone had any last minute advice?

Congratulations on the interview!! :yeah:I have never interviewed for NICU, but I assume it is similar to other new grad interviews. First, do your research!! I cannot stress this enough. Know the hospital's mission statement, core values and information on important programs within the hospital. These are things you can slip in the interview when they ask you "Why do you want to work here?" Second, interviews are usually a mixture of behavioral and situational questions. Behavioral being things like, "Why do you want to work here?" or "What is your greatest weakness?" Situational can be where they describe a patient's condition to you and ask what your first response would be or it can be the famous "Tell me about a time when you .... " Have some clinical examples in mind for these. For example, the one that I got asked the most was, "Tell me about a time when you were faced with a difficult patient/ situation in your clinical experience and how you handled it."

Last thing, be sure to have some questions for them as well. This always looks good, in my opinion.

I hope this makes sense ... I'm quite tired. Good luck with your interview!

You're welcome! I did get hired, so I like to think that I know what I'm talking about. ;)
