I applied for Fall 2021 NNP BSN-DNP as well. Also a South Floridian :)

I'll try not to make this too long...basically, I ended up having to leave my first job after 6 months because I was rushed through the last phase of my orientation and I learned the skills but I was not able to perform them as confident and fast as they needed for me to go by myself. The unit was going through a period where they were extremely short staffed and needed to make a decision of keeping me on or taking me off, I was facing termination if I couldn't perform the skills to their standard but I felt it was an endless hole and It was best that I resign. Obviously a huge blow to my confidence. So thats that, anyway I picked myself up and started applying to other positions and much to my surprise I got 2 interview calls pretty quick. I'm usually pretty good at interviewing so I felt pretty confident minus the dreaded "why did you leave your last job" question. I thought I had that one worked out. Anyway I just heard back from the first interview and I didn't get the job much to my dismay. I have another interview scheduled in a little over a week at my dream hospital I didn't think I stood a chance at getting in the door. Now my confidence is shaken though about the way I to explain that darn question. I know maybe someone else was just more qualified and maybe its a sign to have the chance to go to the interview for my dream job....I don't know...does anyone have any advice how I may better explain my situation? I don't want to blow that chance. Also, I learned you can't be vague when explaining things like that...the interviewer always presses for more information. Any help would definitely be appreciated...

Hi everyone! To all my fellow NICU nurses, I am a new grad in NICU on orientation and have been trying to figure out at what points do you consider bagging an infant or more invasive intervention during a routine shift. Im very familiar with NRP as far as deliveries go and I understand that it basically is the same anywhere but I have been having some trouble applying it. I know that you always have to check the baby first and not rely on the monitors. I obviously haven't had to intervene yet during my orientation but I wanted to get more familiar with what to do so I will feel more confident that I would be able to do the right thing if the time came. Some kind of system in my head to organize all the information. Basically, If the baby desats and doesn't come up, whether on 02 or not on 02, and you have turned them up. I know you can reposition and try to get sats up. If not on 02 you could stimulate if they brady too. But at what point would you bag them? Is it if the heart rate drops too? If they fall into the 60s? 40s? Obviously dont want to wait too long but dont want to bag if not necessary. I know if HR is below 60 I would start compressions after 30 sec of PPV but at what point does this all start? Is blow by another method of solving this if there is no apnea? I hope Im making sense. I appreciate the help! Trying to organize my thoughts

Thanks for your reply! I followed up today for my own sanity with the manager and found out they chose me for the job!! Human resources called a few hours later with the official offer :yelclap: Still can't believe it, I'm soooo excited!

I had my first interview a week ago today and I will say the wait is killing me. I really want this position and even though it was my first interview, I felt like I really connected with the manager and I thought overall that the interview was successful and that I made a strong impression. I also know that there were a good number of people being interviewed (probably over 10) but I noticed there was more than one position open for the unit. The manager said that they would probably have a decision by the end of the week to early next week. I know i'm probably being really impatient...I just don't know how to feel about my chances. I did send a thank you note right after the interview. I guess I'll plan to follow up on Friday this week if I don't hear anything. There is another position open at the same hospital that is closely related to the position I applied for and I wasn't sure if I should go ahead and apply for it or not...or apply to the same position again that is available. Any suggestions? Anyone have any experience with how long it takes HR to call with job offers? All information would be helpful...I'm a May new grad fighting with the economy...at this point any words of encouragement are nice too....starting to feel defeated...this could easily be a looong road ahead.

Hi everyone! I'm a newbie who just got licensed in May I thought I was never going to get a job because of the countless online rejections I got left and right...but somehow out of the blue I got called by the unit nurse manager about coming in to speak with her about a position! I hope she doesn't think i'm naturally a space cadet because I was so excited I had trouble following what she was saying on the phone! Anyway, my interview is tomorrow for a Nursery intermediate position in the NICU. I'm extremely excited about it but I also feel extremely stressed because I don't want to blow it. I have all of my documents and my outfit ready...probably over prepared and ready for anything. Just wanted to see if anyone had any last minute advice?

jmlucie, I got your message but I don't have enough posts yet to respond to you by message privately, however, I am willing to address any concerns you or any of you might have regarding the programs at Queens to the best of my knowledge...or any questions you might have regarding the ABSN in which I am currently in (Class of 11-12) :) Congrats to all of you who got in!

Hmmm...They did send out an email with all the paperwork they need before classes start such as medical paperwork and background check papers. If you haven't received that email I would contact them. Otherwise thats all I have heard from them. I think they did notify me when they got my deposit so I would definitely double check on them!

I submitted my deposit too for May 2011! I look forward to meeting everyone! I also live in an apartment and am in the process of looking for a new roommate. Hopefully I can get to know you guys and possibly help someone with living arrangements :)
