Hi I am Mike and I am very much interested regarding your proposition and I'm very willing to help write articles for allnurses.com. I'm currently a blogger and a writer and was previously an editor-in-chief of a nursing magazine in our college.

I have read some of your responses in this forum and I'm amazed by your range of experience regarding NIT.
It made me (an aspiring NIT) smile and excited by giving us hints regarding this field.

So going on...(sorry for the long introduction)

What topics would you like me to address, cover, and touch on related to Nursing, Healthcare and Medical Informatics?

    • What is the Career Path of a Medical Informatics major?
    • How to become one?
    • Differentiating Universities that offer this course.
    • What are the advantages of being a NIT as compared to other fields?
    • What are the main responsibilities of an NIT?
    • Surviving the MSN Nursing Informatics track
    • Distance education for aspiring NIT.
    • Student's Guide for NIT.

I'll try to think of other topics.
    Glad to meet you all!

    Thank you Mike.

Nice to e-meet you. Thank you for your topic suggestions and numerous posts to this forum today. I'm going to allow a little more time for additional input from other Nursing Informatics forum visitors to contribute.

I also don't want to limit my blog posts and articles to just nursing informatics or nursing informatics education so....

Hey perhaps you can write from your perspective of a nursing student in the Philipines and Nursing Informatics in the Philipines?

Please check with Brian and the Moderator of the Nursing Student Forum... and I think there is also a Philipino Nurse Forum as well - I'm sure they would also greatly appreciate your contributions.

    Many Thanks!

    leekun2010,

There has been a very good discussion occuring on the ANIA-CARING listserve over the last 2 weeks about how one develops a business case for a NI department and I remembered you asking a similiar question. I hope you have been reading these posts and if not you need to be. Let me know if you dont know how to join that listserve and I can direct you.
Also pm me and I can give you the link to the blog site that has been started to discuss this topic and collect the numerous methods other's have utilized to start NI departments at their facilities.

I'd like to know about the following topics:

Regions of the country favorable for NIs
NIs relationship with other members of the informatics team or IT-in particular, the relationship between NIs and physician informaticists
Barriers preventing NIs from performing their work
Roles that NI can serve in (can a NI be a CIO, for instance)
The impact of accrediting agencies like The Joint Commission on an NI's work (are NI's directly involved in surveys)
Typical hours of work for newbie NI vs those in the field five years or longer

I don't know if my topics make sense or are bloggable, but I am hoping you can do something with them.

Hi! I'm new here. I'm taking pre-requisites for Nursing, mainly because I want to be a Nurse Informatics. I have more than 9 years work experience as a programmer and systems analyst. This week, an adviser discouraged me to take up Nursing because she felt that it's not that type of job that I should do. I told her that I can't lift heavy weights. Do you think, she's right? Are Nurse Informatics required to lift heavy weights?

    Thank you. I appreciate it.

RNI2011, even though this is not the correct thread for your question, have you taken a look at health information management? The graduate level programs in that discipline offer degrees in health informatics which would qualify you for a number of roles in informatics including CIO. As an RN, I personally feel that anyone who is interested in becoming a nurse ought to be willing and able to take care of patients for a period of time before they jump into administrative or managerial roles designed for experienced nurses. That means working with patients from all walks of life and of all sizes. Check out www.ahima.org and see what you think. A good number of the pre-regs for health information management are the same as nursing. Best wishes.
