Failed the ANCC NI Certification... Now What?

Greetings,

I took the ANCC Certification today. OHHHHHHHH So close!

I failed (337.. needed minimum of a 350). I don't want to discuss the specifics of the test, because I am not supposed to!

I recently returned 2 weeks ago from Iraq, so honestly I could have studied more for this exam. I thought it was rather hard.

My 2 study supplies were the

1. ANCC Informatics Nurse Online Narrated Review Course

This course contains the same content as our popular Review Seminars, with the voice over of an instructor talking the student through the material. CNE contact hours included.

2. Informatics Nurse Exam Secrets - Mometrix Media

I chiefly used #1. I felt like it was a decent review, but didn't expand on some areas that I needed for the test. I listened to all 10 modules, but honestly a huge chunk of my questions were not covered in that review course.

What else would you recommend that I purchase to study?

Since I am so close, I plan on retaking the test within 90 days. I am just going to hit the books hard and improve the score.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Congratulations! I just got back from taking the exam and unfortunately for me, I didn't pass as I scored 340. Like you, I used the 10 modules narrative review. I feel that the narrative review did not cover most of the questions in the exam. The review included a great deal of informative and valuable information but did not necessarily and directly reflect relevancy in the exam. I'm pretty bummed about not passing and still trying to shrug it off. My next step is to join the ANCC study group in September and retake the exam in November.

I actually think the narrative review hurt more than helped me! The way the Life Cycle was presented was out of order and confusing. I left the test thinking "Nothing I studied was on the test?!"

The study group material was very reflective of the exam. I don't think you have to wait until November. Take it in October.

I took mine the morning after the last study group lecture.

You are so close!

By the way, since you failed the test, the study group should be free. Mine was.

Thanks,

I completely agree and felt the same way when I reached half way of the exam. "Crap, where's the content that I studied?" And yes, the narrative review was annoyingly scattered and confusing. I'm taking the test in November because the study group call lectures lasts for 8 weeks (1 conference call /weekly). I guess I can go by the program handbook supplied. Is this what you did? In any case, thanks for responding and thanks for shedding some light at the end of this ANCC exam tunnel. Oh, and thank you for the tip about the freebie.

Yes, that is what I did (went by the program handbook) . I thought it was fairly easy the second time around.

I also bought this

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0135043948/

Handbook of Informatics for Nurses and Healthcare Professionals (4th Edition) [Paperback]

Which is an easy read. Honestly if you pay attention to that study group you should be 80 percent there. No sweat!

Another tip. I recorded the study group. I called in via skype and used the sound recorder on my computer. I then listened to it later and uploaded it to my ipod so I could listen to it in the car/exercising.

I hate to complain about the ANCC narrative review, but I thought it was awful. Good luck!

I just completed my NI exam and passed!!!!!!Woohooo!!! For those who are planning on taking the exam, I highly recommend taking the Informatics Nursing Study Group by Marisa L. Wilson DNSc, MHSc, RN-BC. It's an 8 week course, but definitely worth the time. In addition, I recommend purchasing the 150 sample exam that ANCC provides. I learned a lot from it and gave me the opportunity to practice on my test taking skills. Good Luck!!

the informatics nursing study group by marisa l. wilson dnsc, mhsc, rn-bc.

if you record it via skype and focus on memorizing the material i don't think you will have any problems passing the exam!

Chris -- I couldn't find the study group you vouched for? I could be searching for the wrong thing. Maybe they discontinued study groups? I am not sure. What do you think?

Quote from Informatics_RN

Hi All,

I just signed up for a test date for the
RN
-BC Informatics certification and most of you know that you are given 90 days to take the exam. I was planning on taking the ANCC study group webinar, but it starts in Feb and ends in April. My 90 day window to sign up for a test date ends in March! I'm debating whether or not to sign up for the study group to receive and use the study materials for reviewing for the exam even if I can only make it for half the sessions. Any advice from those who have taken the course? Will the program material help even if I cannot attend all the sessions???

Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Thanks,

Gene

I am in the exact same situation!

I bought the practice questions from ANCC - $99 for 150 practice questions!!

Not sure how helpful they will be... will find out during the test in March, I guess!

I know this is an old post but just wondered if you still have the information for the site for the study group? The link you sent in a later post says it is not active.

Thanks.
