RPN home care skills?

Hi everybody, what are the skills that are most often involved in home care for a RPN? i remember during my clinical placement that i did mostly wound care, with a little bit of catheter care, nephrostomy and colostomy care, injections, applying patches, and PCA pump maintenance. what else are involved in home care for RPN?

is it difficult for a new grad RPN to get into home care?

I do everything in my area.

PICC care, catheter, wound care, IVs, pediatrics, gtubes, nephrostomy, colostomy, palliative care, etc. it is a steep learning curve for new grads because good assessment skills are vital and it can be hard to not only learn a new area of nursing but also the skills. However, i have mentored some great new

Grads and some not so great. Home care isn't for everyone. Then again all areas are like that

Same company for me, same skill set in my area with the exception of palliative care. The palliative contract belongs to a different company in my area maybe due to a higher population or greater need, either way palliative has its own team around my end.

Many companies up here. Rural area. VON is dwindling its services in areas. We have an excellent palliative care outreach team we work with so i feel lucky because i enjoy palliative care alot.

Just had interview with VON..rate of pay...here in in Ontario compared to same job in nova Scotia less...ouch and it is one of last two remaining branches not unionized.... But I love this kind of work so a bit torn...currently on contract and making more but boring job and only till end of June... Decisions decisions!

Yup community nursing in Ontario is severely underfunded so pay sucks. I love my job so i keep on going
