Like Joanna, I got my first job in a rural setting, and while rural life wasn't what this big city girl was used to, it was good experience. I got my year of experience, the town that I worked in got their RN for a year, and I paid off my student loans in that period. With the experience I gained from working rural, I was able to get myself a job back in the city. Sometimes you have to do what you got to do to get that step into the door.

Most of AB is rural. You're best to check out the alberta health services website for job postings and go to "North Zone". Everywhere in Northern AB is short. There is also a pilot project called the North Zone Locum. RNs receive an added differential and a per diem for working remote communities in Northern AB.
Am an LPN will I also receive a differential? Or it's just for a RN?
LPNs receive shift differentials with AHS yes.
That's nice! They also get some Money from the northern initiative right? But am sure those places have slowest life. I see on AHS most of northern are casual positions though . Impossible to run the house with casual isn't it?
It depends what the position description entails. Only certain northern sites are offering the northern living allowance. It is impossible to staff with casual and part time, so many facilities in AB and across Canada are chronically short. If you are interested in working with Alberta Health Services, I would suggest contacting HR directly and/ or checking out their career website.

I was hired on at three different sites in northern Alberta within 6 months of moving there. The jobs are out there. My advice, don't be picky, and expect to do your time before you end up in that "perfect position".
Paire nurse ! Am motivated now! Yes am open to anything that I get . I have already got 6 months of LTC experience in Toronto . Now I want something in the hospital . Hope I get that in alberta :)))

Its rare that casual LPN positions are posted on the AHS public site.At any one time I've only seen at the max 24 LPN postings in my city on the AHS site.I just noticed a casual position posted for a transition unit. I have all the qualifications they're looking for. So I'll submit my resume tomorrow and see what happens.

Hey Lilaclover . How is nursing in alberta ? Am currently practicing in ontario . Does alberta units have personal support worker? Or the nurses have to do the bedside and meds altogether in the hospital? Just curious
