Excuses for Missing Work

Nurses Humor

How about a list of wierd excuses for not coming to work?

My favorite: I can't come in today, I'm having vision problems. I just don't see myself working.

I was late to work once because my husband had taken my car keys with him-on a two week deployment. But I hitched a ride with someone and just left my house unlocked. Nobody will get anything off me but practice anyway.

I missed nursing school one time because I got up an hour early with a headache and took what I thought was two tylenol and went back to bed. I woke up at 1pm with the EMS at my door. Turned out I took two tylenol PMs, which I usually only take a half of. My work, school, husband, and neighbors had all been trying to reach me. My alarm was dead because it had rang for so long. My husband was out to sea and couldn't come check on me, so he called EMS when I hadn't been found by noon. Luckily I woke up before they busted my front door down.

At work there is a male nurse who calls out just about every weekend he's scheduled to work with diarrhea. The thing is he's gay and has a lifepartner.

This is my personal favorite and I can't wait for the time to come that I can use it:

Had a CNA call in and say that she wouldn't be in that day. I asked her why and she replied "Because I quit" :lol2::lol2::lol2:

What's "gay and has a life partner" have to do with anything??? I'm gay, and never call in sick. :nono:Oh, neither does my life partner. But I take lots of sick calls from straight folks. :uhoh3:

UMM maybe his life partner is a horrible cook and he gets sick from it....

I mean come on.... what gay and life partners and calling in sick have to do with each other only exists in your mind.....

My excuse is kind of like Kevin's only mine has a name its called anal glaucoma and its I just can't see my ass coming into work today!!! :)

I've seen this on a bumper sticker:

I can't come to work today---the voices told me to stay home and clean my guns!

Coworker was driving to work. A truck carrying debris from hurricane cleanup (post Charlie/Frances/Jeannie) stopped suddenly, dropping a substantial tree portion off the back, onto the road, where the coworker hit it, seriously damaging the vehicle.

Do you know how much crap he caught from work/insurance/police, for calling in a "I got hit by a tree"?

Some of my favorites from coworkers-

" I was on my way to work and I just sh*t all over myself":uhoh21:

"I can't find my husband, but as soon as I do, I'll leave the kids with him and come in.'"

"My husband is high and I can't leave the kids with him"

And one that happened to me- First day of clinicals- 2nd semester of nursing school-

My car caught on fire and burned while I was on my way to clinicals. I called someone and got there @ 10 am(supposed to have been there at 7 am). Policy was that if we missed a day or were late the instructor was to take 17 points off of the top of our final grade.(had to have 75 or better to pass). My wonderful clinical instructor refused to take the points and told the director that if it had been her, she wouldn't have come in at all!!

I work in the NICU and our facility has a very strict attendance policy! I am really sick with a bad cold, cough etc.. and Its Christmas weekend, what do I do,I was thinking if I worked a desk job or even a different unit, I probably could go to work but I would feel terrible if I happened to compromise a baby just because I didn't call in sick. I know we will be short staffed and I could probably work, but I don't think it would be right, what do I do??!
