Seeking guidance, new grad RN w/ 5 mo. exp of Home Health

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hi everyone. I recently quit my Home Health job cause the job wasn't worth having due to not being paid enough (most of my income was going towards gas, supplies, and overtime minutes for my cell phone). While I had the job, I kept applying elsewhere, hoping to get something better. Now I have an interview next Monday at 11am at a plasma donation center in San Diego.

I have 2 questions regarding the type of care that's provided there. Since it's a plasma donation center, it's considered outpatient, right? And since it's outpatient, it doesn't count towards acute care, right? So, since it most likely doesn't count towards acute care experience, and since I already have 5 months' experience of Home Health, if I end up getting this job at this plasma donation center, then the experience there would count towards me having RN experience. With that said, my first question is, are plasma donation centers considered outpatient, or acute care experience?

My second question has to do with the experience I've had in general. I'm still trying to get into a new grad RN position in a hospital, and some of them (Scripps, UCSD, etc) require 6 months of RN experience or less. So, if I get this job at the plasma donation center (which probably pays better than the home health job I had, and is an entry-level RN job), should I count the experience as part of my previous 5 months' home health experience? I'm really hoping to get into Scripps next new grad program (apps open Oct/Nov sometime), so I'm not sure how to best proceed if I do get this job at the plasma donation center. Any advice/comments/feedback would be greatly appreciated. :)

Thank you so much!

Also, did it count as acute care or no? i had the same concerns as you as i wanted to apply and get into a new grad program too but ill be using my RN licence in this case.
