No one wants to hire me as a new grad. how do i get the experience!

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I am beyond frustrated. i can't get a job as a new grad RN. I have applied EVERYWHERE including LTC, homehealth agencies. I also applied where i use to work as a CNA, the recruiter called me to schedule an interview yesterday, she then called me today to tell me that she didn't know that i was a new grad and that they are not hiring new grads right now (so why did she call me and get me all excited about the interview) she could have read through my resume first. I am so angry and i am trying not to be depressed about this, i feel like nursing school was a waste of my money, i have started paying for the loans that i took out for school and still, i have no job. i graduated w honors from nursing school, i was so excited about starting my career. PLEASE PEOPLE DO NOT BELIEVE THE HYPE ABOUT SHORTAGE OF NURSES. There's no such thing. i think it's just a way for nursing schools to make money.

i am with you. i've applied for a job almost everyday and so far no calls for a job interview. even nursing homes are not hiring to my suprise because there always has been jobs in nursing home. have you thought about relocating to another area? i'm sure some areas are better than other places.

i have some questions that i want answers. i'm a very simple minded person so please correct me if i'm wrong. this is my view. hospitals are still making billions of dollars every year. if older nurses retire, how are they going to fill those positions? by training new grads arent they going to have more nurses working for them? besides new grads are paid lot less than staff floor nurses. i dont understand why hospitals think its too costly to train new grads. maybe hospitals need to sign the contracts with new grads that by training them they are going to work for them for certain years. when economy gets better do you think hospitals are going to start training more new grads or do you think they are still going to be in money saving mode? i'm sorry guys but when i have too much free time while waitng for a return calls from the hospital i cant help but thinking about this.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but... Are you good buddies with your primary physician? Or any physician really. Ask if you can volunteer in their office to do things like blood draws, injections, etc. until you get a job. I know it sucks that you won't get paid (or maybe you could work out a minimum wage if necessary), but you would then get experience doing SOMETHING. My doc was going to let me do this after I graduated if I needed, but I lucked out and got a job right away (this was a year and a half ago.) Or it doesn't have to be a doc office, it could be anywhere. I just said a doc office cuz that's what I was offered. So, well, it's an idea... Good luck!

I have been looking for a job for three months, I finally got my first interview and have been waiting two weeks

for them to make a decision if I got the job..it is like water torture. I have two kids and an out of work husband.

this was suppose to be my "sure thing" borrowed money to go back to nursing school and can't get a job.

Our big hospitals are all connected by a employment system, nobody to call or talk with..I have walked into

the HR office of hospitals, they can not do anything. This is the most frustrating situtation I have ever been in.

RI has the second worst unemployment rate in the country..:banghead:

please dont tell me you went into nursing because it was a "sure thing" for employment

you can make attachments on here. just reply to this and scroll down to the attach files part

ok i've attached it. thank you

Just an FYI I did not go into nursing because it was a " sure thing"

IN my first career I went to culinary school, and ran a successfull business..

before returning and getting my BSN...

I felt I had something to give back and was very interested in community health nursing.

I am frustrated...due to the lack of job..:bluecry1:

Wow! Three years later and the story is the same, if not WORSE! Why didn't I see all these posts when I was getting ready to start my ADN program. I was probably too busy focusing on all the media about the nursing shortage, and projected job openings and BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!
