Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hi! I passed my boards recently. The only job I got so far is flu school nurse. I am excited about the job am really loves working with kids. The downside is that the job is only a few days of administering flu meds. It would be a good experience for me to at least have my foot in the door.As of another job, I wanted to apply for an actual school nurse contract position for the school district. However, I would not have any benefits, low pay compare to hospital, and no guarantee if next year I am eligible for the next school year. There is no paid time off. If I missed a day, then it is deducted from my pay schedule. The good side is that I have all holidays off, and is family friendly job. I wanted something part time to be able to be there for my son, but this position offers full time. But then again I would be working until May 2015 with no guarantee for next year employment. I am wanting another child and this contract schedule would be flexible for me. Should I take this school contract job full time, or should I wait on another part time job elsewhere? Please be nice when responding.

Specializes in PACU.

I would say take the job. Some experience is better than no experience and some money is much better than earning NO money.

Specializes in ICU.

Why don't you get licensed in Alabama as well? If you are in Pensacola, just hit I-10 and get a job at somewhere like Mobile Infirmary. I know a lot of nurses who work in Baldwin and Mobile Counties, and live in P'Cola. As a matter of fact, I am from Pensacola and worked at the Infirmary for years. Yes, it is a drive, but if you can't get a job where you are, you do what you can. Good luck to you, dear.

I would say take what you can get for the time being. I recently jjst passed my boards and am looking to move to pensacola so just out of curiosity what's the pay like with the flu nurse deal and/or school nurse?

Also getting licensed in Alabama is extremely easy compared to the Florida process...there's Mobile Infirmary, Thomas Infirmary, USA Women's & Children's & Providence all in the Mobile Area. Expand your search and try to reach out to HR departments at Sacred Heart & Baptist Hospital for career fairs if you want to stay in the Pensacola area...Good Luck!
