How do I get a job without a year of RN experience?

I am graduating soon and have started looking for RN positions. So, here's the thing. I don't understand why they say there is a shortage of Nursing Jobs. There are lots of jobs out there. HOWEVER, can someone please tell me how I am supposed to get a job as a new RN when just about everyone wants you to have a year of experience before they hire you? There are a few hospitals out there that will consider hiring graduate nurses, but not many.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what approach I should take? I am starting to look at ED Tech and NA positions as well because... I need a job. But, even if I take a position like that... that does not give me the year of RN experience that I need.

This is my dilemma as well. I'm a new grad but I only want to work part time. I want to continue my education. When I look at the jobs, they all require 1 or 2 yrs experience. How do I get around that. Hubby says still submit my resume to jobs requiring 1 yr experience and if I get the interview to sell myself.

In the mean time just to keep up my skills, I'm working on my ACLS/PALS certifications.

I'm hoping to get some good input here. Thanks in advance.

This my issue too. In hospitals and in clinics they want at least a year....some want 3.....I am frustrated as well. I graduated this past December, got the RN in January...no luck.

I agree with the previous....just send the application...what the worst that happen? I mean you just never know. I keep my practice going on with volunteering at a clinic and and taking ICS classes through FEMA (not nursing) bc I hear it looks great on Resumes. I also am thinking to get the ACLS as well. Many hospitals "prefer" "desire" or "require" it and some want it withing 6mon-yr of employment. I think they would like it if they wouldn't have to worry about someone who alreay has it.

Also find out about Nursing Career Fairs in the area and in the hospitals. Find them online and in the newspaper of the classifieds....Sunday papers are better (to me anyway)
