Frustrated New Grad RN, HELP!

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I graduated from nursing school in May and passed my NCLEX in June. I have been applying for jobs non-stop both before and after taking the NCLEX. I have had little to no luck in my Job Search. I have mostly been applying online. I find that I either get lost in the automatic system and can never reach someone to talk to or instantly get turned down because I am a new graduate. I am more than willing to relocate for a job (at this point I will do whatever it takes). I beginning to lose hope in ever finding a job. It is really hard to work so hard for to become an RN only to not be able to find a job because I am a new grad.

If anyone out there has any advice or help, I would really appreciate it.

Don't give up!! You have to keep pushing. Almost to a stalker level O.O

In a recent job fair I went to a recruiter from a TOP ny employer was telling us that the hospitals are getting feisty with hiring ppl with no prior experience, but that it didn't even matter much since the shift will be more towards doctors offices, clinics, schools, ect. Try showing up in person about every week. Really make the effort.

This guy has some pretty good ideas and they worked!! I'm going to start doing them this week!!

I graduated May 2010 with my BSN. It was all for nothing. Unless you are bilingual and have some hospital experience your chances of being hired are 0%. Better start of plan B. The further out you get from your preceptorship the less chances you have of being hired...as if you have a chance now. Sorry, but that is the truth. Many of my classmates spent $100's on certs all to no avail. BSN=waste for the majority who obtain it. At least in California.

Try to apply outside of the hospital too. I know everyone has bad things to say about nursing homes, but it's a start. A friend of mine's cousin started in the nursing home on the night shift as a new grad and she survived. Try clinics too. I also know of someone who got a clinic job as a new grad so it's not impossible. That's something I would want to do myself. I graduate in December but haven't started looking yet mainly because I want to relocate but am not sure where to lol. In the meantime, I have my job that I've been working for the past 6 years so I won't be unemployed thankfully! Good luck on your search.
