Entry Level RN Resume Help!

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hey everyone,

So I recently took my NCLEX, have been working on my entry level resume, and had some questions I was hoping I could get help with.

1. Is an objective needed ?

2. When writing about Credentials and Certifications are you supposed to put the year you received the credential or the date it expires?

3. Under Clinical Experience do we include a short description of what we did even though every other nursing student performed the same tasks? Or do we just input our hospital rotations, date, and hours worked?

4. In regards to Work Experience, I have worked other jobs that weren't health care related, do we include those even if they were only for a few months? Or does including a job that was only worked a few months negatively effect us and show inability to maintain a position? The same applies for Volunteer Experience, I never finished a full year and instead volunteered for 5 months, should I include that or no?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Tina

1. Not needed

2. They'll want the issue date and the expiration date. Put these at the top, especially if you have ACLS or something else like that.

3. Keep it basic. No need to list out every single thing you did, unless you got some spectacular experience few new grads get.

4. I would put a couple of these, and try to put the skills that will pertain to nursing. "Multi tasking, problem solving, customer service..." Whatever's accurate. Keep it factual, no fluff words. Those are for your cover letter.

thanks!
