PBDS test

Hi help! i just took it in january, and am also a L&D nurse! the first one i took was just general med surg stuff. they give you a situation (usually on video or tape) then give you information (labs, VS, etc) and you have to write down what the problem is, what your interventions would be, and why you would do your interventions. They are wanting to assess your critical thinking skills basically. I reassessed and it was specifically in OB, i dont know if it will be that way if you have to or not! Good luck

I took the test in Colorado 1 yr ago. They did have some OB including L&D. I did miss some things because I no longer work L&D...they said it was just to get an idea of what we know and could work with us to help us understand our jobs. I thought it was worthless myself. Seemed too subjective. Also, had to write out answers and the space was small to write in everything. I think I missed those questions because they really wanted some detail....

As an experienced L&D nurse, I am sure you won't have any problems with PBDS. Historically, your specialty does very well - along with NICU & Periop. Think of this as your chance to show off your expertise.

Just be sure you pay attention to the directions. Be sure to include ALL details. Your responses will be rated - and the rater cannot tell whether you didn't know - or just didn't include all information. For instance, if you say you are going to call the physician, be sure to include all the information you will tell her.

There is a 'conflict management' section that causes much angst also -- but not to worry, just follow the instructions.
