Magnet Hospital Status

(I posted this question on the site for Nurse Administrators, but would be interested if any educators can contribute.)

Is anyone out there part of a Magnet hospital? Were you involved in the Certification process? Were your nurses keen on making the push for the Certification or did they view it as something everyone else wanted them to shoulder?

We have no magnet hospitals in our state and one of the largest medical centers here wants to be the first. They have had, in the past, an adversarial relationship with their nurses who are unionized as a result.

I'd be interested in any perspectives you can share.

We were the first hospital in the Rochester, NY area to gain Magnet certification (July, 2004). We are a Level I Trauma Center and have 750+ beds. I was part of the OR Magnet process committee. Most of the nursing staff seemed to be interested in gaing Magnet status. We actually just finished our first nursing survey since gaining Magnet status. You can get to the University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital website to find out what the nursing department did for the Magnet certification. The web site is http://www.urmc.rochester.edu.

despite this designation at this facility, when i did a search at previously mentioned website, strong health website, google search only one article written by nurse leader could be located. obtained more info obtained from article dr guzick md had written. so despite nursing excellence within the facility, presence on hospital websites minimal. or did my sleauthing fingers fail me this time?
