Hello -

I am looking for a MSN program that will prepare me for a further career in nursing education. What programs are out there and what should I be looking for in terms of classes? It was much easier picking a BSN program. When it comes to a MSN I am a little lost. Please feel free to give me your honest opinions about various programs.

Thanks in advance

University of Phoenix offers an MSN with a focus in healthcare education. I truly value what i learned in the program. I had to put what I learned to use immediately in my first teaching job. Thank goodness I learned how to write objectives in all three domains of learning, and test questions at the higher levels on Bloom's taxonomy, etc.... I really was shoved right in the water, sink or swim, and not just teaching but writing and revising curriculum. I never could have done it well without the education focus in my program.

There are lots of schools that offer an MSN with a concentration in education, both online and B&M, that have good programs (and cost a lot less than U of Phoenix). I would encourage people to shop around and consider a variety of schools. The best choice for any particular person is going to vary, depending on a bunch of individual considerations.

Best wishes for your journey!

Woa!!!!

I wasn't trying to do a commercial for UoP. I have no connections with them whatsoever, except for the fact that I went to school there and learned a great deal that I am using everyday... I just don't know what other schools/programs have to offer, and I wanted the OP to know how much the education focus has helped me.

You have to do some research on the schools you would like to attend. The curriculum for each program are different. There are some classes you may be interested to attend. I going to attend Walden U in January for numerous of reasons. I have colleagues attending this school. I have only heard positive things about them. I researched their program and was pleased. I had two schools in mind and decided Walden U.

I wanted to go back to university where I earned my BSN but they dont have a online program for their MSN. So I researched and researched what was better for me. Good luck with your decision. Keep us posted.

I don't know where you are located, but here is the URL for a program in Louisville, KY. I am a graduate of this program with an MSN in Nursing Education. What I learned there has served me well. Just a possibility to add to your reasearch........

Good luck!

Specializes in Home health was tops, 2nd was L&D.

Check out Western Governor's University, all online, tuition by the 6 mos semester, you can do as much as you can pass each semester for same cost! Self-paced program so you would need alot of self-motivation and discipline. It is competency based, meaning if you don't know it you read, study etc, but if you know it just brush up and take competency exam(tests or projects, or essays, research papers) You pass then go to next class. MSN in Nursing Education or Nursing Leadership programs. I am just starting but it fits my learning abilities and is very reasonable.

I recommend contacting your state university, even if in another city. They probably have online programs and would be cheaper than other schools since you are a resident of that state. The University of Texas (various locations) has online MSN-Education tracks. Someone in my "class" was from Florida, so distance was not an issue.

Western Governor's has MSN in Nurse education, is $3600/6 mo semester and you can take as many classes as you can pass each semester. So if totally dedicated, and motivated, you could accomplish in possibly 2 and easily 3 semesters, they are accrediated, and participate in Federal student aid. It is totally online and same price no matter where you live..if you want more personal info email me thru this site and I will respond.
