Which way to go?

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hello all,

This is my first time posting, and I am looking for some helpful advise from you all. I am pursuing a career in nursing. I live in a community that doesn't offer a BSN program, only an ADN and LPN. My goal is to complete a masters. I have 3 small children, so I know that this will not happen quickly. Anyways, I'm not able to enter the ADN program this fall because we just moved to the area and unfortunately have missed some deadlines.:o

My question is, should I start the LPN program this fall to finish it by the end of summer 09, finish up pre-reqs then go on to the advance standing program (LPN to ADN) summer 2010 and finish 3 semesters later, or wait till Fall 2009 and go directly into the ADN program? Thanks in advance for the input!

Sounds like your timeframe is about the same for graduating with your RN.

I guess the question would be to answer 1) do you need the money that working as an LPN will offer you? 2) Are you sure you can get in the ADN program in Fall of 2009.

If you don't need to work right away, I would advise you to set your sites on the ADN RN. Take all the pre-reqs and co-reqs prior to the Fall of 2009, everything except the nursing courses. As time allows you might also consider taking courses that you will need for your ADN to BSN/MSN program, such as Statistics, extra humanities, Chemistries or whatever the school you're considering getting your BSN/Masters at is going to require. You might have to take some of these online if they aren't offered.
