Resume Review

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hello All,

I was hoping to get some constructive criticism on my resume. Please let me know what you think... Also, where would you suggest I put my Nurse Extern experience (under clinical or work experience)?

Thanks in advance!

I would limit the objective to one line, something similar to "Obtain full time nursing position on X Unit." Some even suggest leaving objective off the resume and including this information in the cover letter.

I would not list nursing school clinical experiences on the resume. You will find many people who recommend this, however clinical experiences are fairly standard from school to school. If you have experiences above/beyond the routine, then by all means list those.

If your nursing externship was employment, list it under employment and summarize any skills/experiences above routine nursing school experience in this section. If this was an academic externship then I would list it under education, and again list any skills/experiences above routine nursing school experience.

I would list all of the employment history you have. I would not use bulleted lists to summarize work experience, particularly double lists, as these can be difficult to follow. One or two short sentences will convey all necessary information and be much easier to read.

I would list your position as Vice President of the Student Nurses association under honors.

I would not use bulleted lists to summarize work experience, particularly double lists, as these can be difficult to follow.

You want to keep your resume short, sweet, and to the point. It should not be any longer than two pages. It should also be easy to read, and flow logically.

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation, and good luck in your Job Search and new career!

Specializes in ortho rehab, med surg, renal transplant.

Hi GGT,

I'm a nursing student & looked at your resume to help write my own. Just check for typos.

Specializes in M/S, Tele, Sub (stepdown), Hospice.

Under 'catheterization'....I would specify...urinary, etc.

Also agree with above posters...don't use the bullets.

Good luck!
