Nurses Career Support

I am a new nurse and am scheduled for my first interview on Friday. The lady that called wants me to bring information on my last four employers, supervisors, etc. While this in and of itself isn't unreasonable I'm at a loss...

In my experience, most places want 10 years worth of information. Well, I worked at my last job for 9 years and have been in NS since that time until graduation/NCLEX. I was laid off that job because they disbanded my entire division. One of my old supervisors retired and the one that was current is God only knows where. The lady said to me, "If you can't track them down, how can we?" I asked if former co-workers who were not necessarily my supervisor would be okay but it was ignored. :o

The job I had before that I was let go because one of the partners in this small office had a relative that needed a job so she got mine. They shouldn't be hard to find, nor should the one from 3 jobs ago. Job 4 ago was 17 years ago and in another state. I've searched on the internet for current information on the company but it no longer exists as it was. It apparently was sold or something back in 1996. Either way, I don't recall my supervisor's name and what's the liklihood of this new company having any knowledge of me? Is is reasonable for me to be able to track this stuff down? Expecially for a place which notoriously has the lowest pay in the region....:uhoh3:

Any suggestions?

First I don’t work in healthcare, however my state law stipulates a perspective employer can ask only a few basic questions of the previous employer.. Did so and so work for you? And Would you hire them back. Beyond that the previous employer could be held liable for slander if you are not hired because of something they said…

Personally… I would list every one you worked for by original company name (even if the company no longer exists or was bought out), list supervisor if you can remember and that’s it…

Here all they can ask is date of hire, date of separation and if they would rehire. I would love to just list the information. The problem is though, they expect me to track all these people down and it's just not possible with some of them.......

I have a question...have you asked the HR department if it's absolutely necessary for the last 4 since you have the work history that you do?

I tried unsuccessfully. I'm just going to take what I have and not worry about it. If it's not good enough then I can't help it. Fortunately, I'm in a position that we're not going to starve if I don't get a job right away. Her rationale for having to go back so far was that there are 4 blanks for employers on the application.

I think this request is unreasonable. Most job applications have required me to provide a five-year work history and nothing further.

I agree, sounds like she is dealing with the HR Village Idiot.

I think the request is a little unreasonable as well, but i'd also be asking myself what kind of organization am i applying to work at, if this is their process of screening/interviewing/hiring. Kinda makes me wonder how their current employees are treated.
