Letter of Recommendation

Nurses Career Support

Published

I have asked my previous professor if she would be willing to write a letter of recommendation for me. She agreed, and her terms for all students are that they have to write their own letter and she will go over it and make any needed changes. Its difficult to think of what I would like in my recommendation letter. Highlighting strengths and qualities of what would make me a great nurse is hard, especially because I am so critical of myself and just see what I need improvements on. Any help or recommendations would be great!

What would you write in your own letter of recommendation?

Honestly, I haven't come across any instance in which letters of recommendation are utilized in employment decisions because they are always written by people who are obviously very supportive (biased) of the applicant. On the other hand, every employment application DOES require professional references. Instead of giving you a LOR, see if your professor would be willing to serve as a reference. As a new grad, you may not have a lot of people who can fulfill this role if you haven't actually held any nursing or patient care jobs.

Best wishes on launching your new career!!

Thank you!
