I failed out of nursing school my last semester....help!

Nurses Career Support

hello. i was just wondering if there was anyone else out there like me. i failed out of nursing school my last semester (it is a bsn program). in my program, you only get one repeat. i already used that repeat in my ob semester. i passed that class just fine the second time around. i did appeal and was denied the chance to repeat the final semester. i feel like i let my family down. my parents had already ordered graduation invitations and booked a hotel for my family to stay at. i came so close to finishing and now i'm not graduating. :banghead: you can imagine the things that are being said about me by my family. it is very frustrating to be laughed at by people who are related to you...even my grandmother makes rude comments. that's a whole different issue.

however, i have been looking at other programs and there is a possibility that i could get into another program in the fall as a senior. i really feel like nursing is the career for me. i love working with patients and doing the responsibilities of a rn. i just have doubts in the back of my mind that i may fail again. it would be nice to know that other people have been in a similar situation and made it. :nurse:

So I'm in the same boat...although I'm the oldest in my class. I would have liked to graduate before I'm 50. I failed because I didn't pass the ATI, although I have a B, in Adult Health II. All I can say is I will ask another school, who does a two year degree for RN, and then go online later and take the last course for the BSN. Or I have my license in massage therapy, which I can always go back to.

Yes, I totally agree, why should we not be allowed to fail? Especially because of an ATI? I'm failing a test, that I might not pass the NCLEX. The smartest girl passed, graduated and failed the first NCLEX she took, but I'm not allowed to graduate and try? Attorneys are allowed to take the bar how many times? This is messed up. Just so EUP can say that they have 100% passing rate for NCLEX. At whose expense who were left behind? They left behind a person that wanted to become a nurse, went four years, and has no diploma to show for it. Which makes me think that maybe I should just stay being a LMT.

No, I thinink that you should find another school. I know that nothing is impossible for god, so just let him guide you along. That what I am doing. When I failed I did not know that I would be taking a class the next month, I just continue to pray that I will be a nurse one day.

Hello talker1584. Yes, I know there are others out there like you. I am one of them. I became an RN(12/08) and it took me 20 yrs(after an illness, trying to have children, learning issues and yes, failures). The point is I am here! Please be sure you are being honest w/yourself(are you fully committed to this). I'm not trying to be sarcastic. Only take care of the immediate things(family and job), the rest can wait(will have to). You must study most of your time esp if you have a diff time. Ask for help(at school and home). Don't ever let anyone say that you won't be a good nurse because you failed. Chances are they have no idea what it's like. Don't give up! Follow your heart and if you truly want this, you will get there! You made it that far,so that should tell you something...look in the mirror everyday and tell yourself that you are a capable and confident adult(believe in it). Surround yourself w/positive people and walk away from the negative as they can bring you down. Good luck and keep me informed. Take care.

I also failed out of my class this semester. Even though I get another chance of repeating the class. I dont think I can do it again. Our school is accelerated program, so you have to be out of school for one full semester, till they offer the course again. I way behind from graduating. So I have talked to my advisor about it. She told me to get Associate degree first, which will get me to take NCLEX-RN. Then mayb after if I want to, I can get BSN later. Those which you can take online courses (RN for BSN). So, I'm trying to transfer to schools where they offer associate degree. I dont think I want to go find another 4 or 3 yr BSN program, which will take me longer for me to graduate, because I'm pretty sure some schools wont take all your credits from previous college.

Don't give up. I wondered the same thing, if there was anyone out there who experienced what I had to go through. I was actually in a bachelors in biology program that was really difficult and I spent hours studying for each class. I found out that the way my advisor had been setting up my classes each year I ended up having some extra classes that I would have to stay an extra semester for (past the four years I had already been to school). This was discouraging because I thought i was going to graduate that semester. Well I went through my last semester. I got down to a final assignment that counted a huge part of my grade for a class and I didn't pass the assignment. It caused me to fail the course. Also, for many reasons I didn't retake the course. I was very disappointed and thought i would never get over it but then decided on going into nursing. I have done really well and am now on my last semester. I constantly had that worried feeling you mentioned that I might fail again but I haven't so far and hopefully still will not. Anyway, sorry to hear about it all, but good luck to you.Your not alone :)

I agree with the previous person, your classes will be transfered. I live in California and they along with other schools do give credit for previous classes, so don't give up, and don't believe the hype. Good luck.

I just wanted to add my experience since im in a similar situation. I failed out of 3rd semester OB & peds due to clinical. I was denied my appeal but got into another school even though its in a small town at least its a BSN program. I took credit by exam for adult med surg and psych..everything else transfered (foundations, patho, nurs research, pharmacology)..now i get to start 3rd semester at a different school. I thank god every day 4 this because I did receive alot of "No, u can't transfer if you failed out of one program" from counselors, but I did get two schools willing to accept me. The moral of the story is YES u can get into another program and YES ur credits can transfer if u find the right school..I hope the OP & every1 else going through this got into another program!!

What school accepted your credits? I just failed out of a BSN program in the fourth semester in Florida... Can you please help me? I dont want to start all over

Im at TAMIU. Its in laredo,TX. If u are able to transfer out of state, im pretty sure they will accept you. Since u were in 4th semester, u probably will have to repeat something because u need a certain number of credits to graduate from each university. The city sucks but the staff and students are nice and they actually do care, not that fake caring, that I've witnessed before..lol.. Well, DM me if u have any other questions.
