Hawaii to Baylor Medical Center , Dallas need advice

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hello everyone,

I just received a phone call from a baylor recruiter and I am scheduled for a phone interview next week. This position is Trauma/General Surgey GN position? Does anyone have any tips or advice for a phone interview? I would also like to know if someone could possible tell me more about the work environment at Baylor. I am very nervous and want to find out more about the moving transition from Hawaii to Texas. If anyone could share their experience, I will definitly appreciate it! :specs:

Specializes in Emergency.

I live in Dallas, well a suburb of it and have lived in all my life. I cant tell you much about a phone interview, because ive only had one for a bank job, but baylor is a trauma 1 facility. dallas will definitely give you a culture shock coming from Hawaii. The apts downtown are litterally in walking distance of the hospitals, they are pricey but really gorgeous. There are very nice areas of Dallas that are close to BUMC. You have Richardson, Forney, Plano, Mesquite, Garland, etc. The hospital is great. No complaints here. Anything else PM me.

Specializes in ED, ICU, PACU.

There is a saying around here "It's the Baylor way or the highway" It would probably be best for a nurse coming in as a GN because they can mold you into 'their way'.

As for the cost of living, it is probably a lot cheaper than it is in Hawaii. You can see summer temperatures run 99 degrees for a month straight and have even had some heat waves lasting a few weeks where the temp went to 110 to 115 degrees. Average is having a few weeks of 100 during August with July and September in the mid to high 90's. And, fireants make it impossible to enjoy the outdoors. Can you tell I don't like the heat and bugs here?
