Cruise Nursing Experience

Nurses Career Support

Ok I wasn't really sure where to put this question so I hope this is the right place.

Ok I will graduate in December with my RN. I've worked in LTC for almost 9 years (I was a teenager still when I started as an aide!) and I'm ready to start working with something different. I'm interested in NICU, Peds in general, or Labor and Delivery. The reason I put this under cruise nursing experience is because I've been researching being a nurse on a cruise line. Everything online says they want you to have at least 3-5 years of CCU, ICU, and/or ER experience. Would PICU or NICU or a pediatric ER count? Or do they want you to have experience with adults? I mean there are kids onboard, especially something like a Disney cruise.

Also, anyone have any words of wisdom or experience they could give me? For example, they say a minimum of 3-5 years, but in reality do they only hire nurses with 10+ years of experience? I looked up cruise nursing on the search engine on this site and almost every post was years old. Thanks!!!

Most seem to insist on the three years ER or ICU experience. If you only have two years but a really good background they might consider you but I guess you'll be a bit lower on the list of candidates.
