Awful Management

Nurses Career Support

Published

I just started my job as an LPN at this facility on December 22nd, 2015. In a little over a month's time, I have never gotten out on time, management does not have your back, had sexual assault accusations on multiple staff members against residents, multiple people's paychecks and actual pay rate being so far less than what we are actually supposed to get, and W-2s were messed up! I work 2-10pm and I'm lucky if I go home before 1am. I get one to three days off every two weeks. My second paycheck, they had my pay rate as a CNA and not a nurse. They weren't pulling federal taxes. Went to my facility and called corporate. "Honest mistake" isn't so honest when the first time you owe me $600 and the second time it's $900. I plan on calling the labor board and putting in my two weeks. Anything is better than this place. The hostility and the extreme risk of losing your license at this facility is insane! Anyone else have any advice on what to do other than what I have said I'm going to do? I also plan on calling my BON.

Good thing you realized quickly what kind of a place this is. Get out before you get too vested, smart move! [emoji106]

I had two days of inservice and then was dropped on the floor by myself with a 50+ patient load. The DON and ADON are NOT supportive. The office staff has less brain cells than air. The staffing manager is very flighty and frequently only staffs us with 6-7 aids even though we have 6 halls. Frequently the nurses have to pick up all the slack even though we are the medtech on one of our halls and pass narcotics on the other. It's a hostile place. Very easy to lose your locense here. I could not believe how AWFUL this place was.

I would also suggest contacting your local CMS Ombudsman program... you can google with your state & "CMS Ombudsman" to get specific contact information. These are volunteers who are authorized to evaluate LTC to ensure that beneficiary care is appropriate. If there is anything hinky, they will trigger CMS investigation.

Best of luck to you on your Job Search.

One lowball paycheck is maybe a system error of some kind, but two is just poor accounting or outright theft. Did they at least correct your pay immediately? Either way, that right there would be enough of a reason to quit even without the other problems this facility has. I hope you are able to find something else and quickly.

They had my birthday wrong and my middle name spelled wrong, "couldn't" get me in the time clock for like 3.5 weeks, said it was fixed and then BAM this check comes in. The first time I made a complaint, I told them I wanted a paper check and for it to not go as gross on my next check. They apparently send them to the facility and not your house and no one told me it came in for four days. It was practically theft. I am not the only one they are withholding funds from. And I don't want to be associated with a company that is so okay with doing this. The risk of losing your license for negligence due to being understaffed is too high. Way too high. I just got licensed. I don't want to lose it because of a staffing manager who is flighty and doesn't staff enough people.

I know how you feel but CYOA if you go to higher ups...don't do anymore than you're capable of doing, and don't work off the clock...come in earlier if you can, plan your med pass...prioritize, gather supplies first thing. My place isn't lucky enough to have generous nurses that restock the cart and change the trash like team workers do...bunch of inconsiderate night nurses who use sleep deprivation and pregnancy as an excuse! As far as funds...keep a record of arrival and departure times, make a copy for HR or Staff Development as proof...you keep the original....good luck
