I am a Registered Nurse here in the Philippines but doesn't have enough experience as a Staff nurse. I am currently employed as a call center agent in one of the company here and decided to continue my profession in New Zealand as a nurse for my family. Is it true that they accept registered nurses even without experience but need to pass IELTS, 6-8 weeks training program and CAP exam. I hope you can enlighten me regarding this. Thank you so much and God bless!!! :)

Which province are you looking at and what route are you also looking at for working?

Hi. The nursing council of new zealand requires that the applicants should have atleast 2 years nursing experience. Unlike before that they just asked the applicants to get 450 hours nursing practice but everything's changed now. So even if you pass the required ielts score but you don't have 2 years experience they won't approve your application. And for the cap course, it's 9-12 weeks starting this year. Also, don't be fooled to some agencies in the Philippines as they are very good in convincing people and sometimes they don't tell the truth of what's really happening here. Better check the website of the nursing council for more detailed information. Thanks!

The nursing council care about that nurses that come into New Zealand have the same level of qualifications of those who have been taught in New Zealand. Some countries do not have the same levels and teaching that New Zealand does. Check the nursing council website for decent information as what it says on there is what is needed in New Zealand by nurses. They govern what is taught to nursing students as well.

Regarding the international nurse registration in New Zealand there is going to be changes from march this year, and i was just curious about the first requirement that's been listed - "Current registration with an overseas regulatory authority"... whats an overseas regulatory authority??? i did not see reference to "overseas regulatory authority" in NZ govt site...

and i've heard from my friends working in NZ that nursing courses that do not have a minimum of 3years course duration are getting rejected and also that diploma holders are slowing getting sidelined in newer applications...

I would image they mean registration as a RN in the country you trained in

and i'm glad you have great reputation - quoted in wikipedia - "Silver dragons are the second most powerful of the metallic dragons, and are true friends to all."

Any idea on which all countries are considered at par with New Zealand's quality of nursing???

Hi! I am a registered nurse here in the Philippines, but i don't have the any work experience. I already have a Permanent Resident Visa and will be flying to New Zealand in a couple of months. I have an IELTS band score of 7.5, Academic. What do I need to do once I'm there to pursue a nursing career? I would really appreciate a reply. Thank you.

NZ or Australia both countries need experience. You will need to be assessed by the NZ nursing council to find out what they require you to do.

I already checked the nursing council of new zealand website and I can't find out exactly what I need to do. You're most probably right , I do need to get assessed. Thank you.
