Support for ADN education: HR 2053 the Nurse Education Promotion Act

I investigated this act quite thoroughly and while it does pay up to $17,600 plus a stipend per month, there is a two year committment to work in an underserved facility. And...gues what...there aren't any where I live. I was going to use it for the BSN/MSN option I'm doing.

Better concentrate on the latter ("hiring faculty"). Without enough faculty, all of the scholarships in the world aren't going to do any good. There is such a shortage now in my area that it is difficult to find even BSN nurses qualified to teach, much less MSN's.

Hello. I am the person that posted the need to find an NLN test ASAP. I am trying to get into a nursing program in Kentucky that to my understanding does not have enough qualified applicants to fill the program, but because I can't find anywhere to take the NLN I will not even be considered. I know I have what it takes because I just graduated from the local community college with a 3.9 GPA in Information Technology - for which I cannot find a job. I have found out that I can combine a nursing degree with the IT degree to become an Informatics Nurse. Before I switched to the IT degree I was pursuing a nursing degree because I have a strong medical background. I like nursing but the instructors for the IT program promised me a golden opportunity that I fell for hook line and sinker. I should never have changed my major, but I am only human and let myself be led astray. I have contacted the NLN organization and they can give me no help as to where I can take this test so that the school can have results by Aug. 4th.

My problem is with the current nursing shortage why don't they make the prerequisites more available so that people can have more access to them???

traumarus---check the disproportionate share hospitals link below---95 % of philadelphia area hospitals are on pa's list including one 5 minutes from my home. check your state agian. think of facilities in your area with indigent populations---you might be surprised.

nsp service sites

nsp participants must provide full-time or part-time clinical service in a health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses. health care facilities include:

a) indian health service health centers;

b) native hawaiian health centers;

c) hospitals;

d) federally qualified health centers;

e) rural health clinics;

f) nursing homes;

g) home health agencies;

h) hospice programs;

i) state or local public health departments including public health clinics within the departments;

j) skilled nursing facilities; and

k) ambulatory surgical centers.

each year, the secretary of department of health and human services will determine the most needy health care facilities with a critical shortage of nurses, and scholarship recipients will be limited to providing service in those facilities. for fiscal year 2003, the secretary has determined that the most needy health care facilities with a critical shortage of nurses include disproportionate share hospitals, nursing homes, and state or local public health departments, including clinics within these departments. there is no guarantee that the critical shortage facilities which are currently approved for nsp placements will still be approved at the time applicants are available to serve.

From the NLN---the readiness test is usually scheduled by the school of nurisng at the END of the education program, not at hte start. Check out the school of nursings requirements again---might not be the same preliminary test.

Purpose: This test assesses students' knowledge of nursing abilities and skills required for entry-level practice as measured by NCLEX-RN and provides valuable test-taking practice.

Description: The Diagnostic Readiness Test (DRT) consists of 172 individual scored items that follow the NCLEX-RN test blueprint.

Administration: Schedule at the end of the education program. Requires approximately three hours. May be taken in groups or by individuals outside the classroom.
