Do you want to have to win a lottery to see the doctor?

Nurses Activism

Published

The National Post reports on how some Canadian doctors have held lotteries to determine which patients to eliminate from their practices, while other doctors held lotteries to decide who they'll accept. By shedding some patients doctors hope to avoid imposing a 5-minute appointment assembly line on the rest of their patients. Similarly, restricting new patients through a lottery keeps patient loads manageable.

Both lotteries reflect the severe shortage of primary doctors in Canada -- yet another example of medical personnel shortages (and surpluses) that tend to crop up under nationalized single-payer health care systems. (Last year it was a nurse shortage and hospital consultant glut in the U.K.)

After being kicked out of her doctor's practice, one patient was forced to drive 18 kilometers to the next town to find a doctor.

Einstein once said, 'The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.'

It is the poor who habitually elect Democrats---yet they are still poor...

These are also the 40% or so of our population who receive an 'income tax credit' amounting to a return that is GREATER than they're scheduled FICA.

In other words, these people get back MORE than they paid in, it's a social program designed to offset the tax load on the poor.

Nope, just someone trying of paying for a bunch of free loaders. Of course the left doesn't worry about taxes since they don't pay theirs to begin with.

Sadly, you ignored the entire post as usual........

When 40% of American workers are below 200% of poverty for income that is hardly freeloading. I would venture to guess that most of those workers have a much more dangerous and physically taxing work environment than most posters on this board.

Taking the high ground as usual a review of core nursing values is in order:

Core nursing values essential to baccalaureate education include human dignity, integrity, autonomy, altruism, and social justice.

As an APN you are held to a higher standard of thinking and behavior.

A huge reason for those poverty levels in MI is because of the auto industry, both directly and indirectly. I live in rural MI and it's the same here. MI is hurting, and a large chunk of those without insurance and/or in poverty were people who DID work, and worked hard, until they lost their jobs and couldn't find others.

I will also say that as a Dem, I pay plenty of taxes. Thinking that all liberals are poor freeloaders is terribly misguided thinking. The WORKING poor are the ones who are really suffering here, and who would benefit from health care reform.

.........EITC is a Milton Friedman idea and was meant as a work support program from the very beginning.......What your comment fails to address is that those eligible for EITC usually pay state, city and property taxes from dollar 1 that they earn. Add in that poverty is the single greatest risk factor for poor health, poor schools and that is a very very high effective tax rate.

The state I live in doesn't have an income tax, and only property owners pay property taxes. Those on TennCare can go to a doctor....free....and get a script for OTC meds....free......they live in section 8 housing.....nearly free, if not outright.....and have all the latest in ipods, big screen TVs....ect...ect...ect...

In life, there are choices. When we institute a mind set of welfare in populations, it becomes a way of life that leads future individuals down the only path they've ever known.

The only way to break the cycle is to stop feeding it. A hand up, help through a degree seeking program....I'm all for it, but a hand out fails the objective, study after study prove this....hell, even Oprah slams 'affirmative action' as reverse discrimination that only helps to feed the welfare mentality.

* Once you have a PCP in the UK , you do not have to face the possibility of loosing them and can be safe in the knowledge that the relationship you build with them will be ongoing .

In the Uk the only case of having to move GP would be if you move as they normally have geographic areas they cover based, this uis due to gp still providing home visits or more so the distrist nurses providing home care the homebound patients. unfortuenly in big inner cities moving 15min walk can mean no longer being covered by that practice however i was a student and had registerd with the GP asx such so more than likely a person lving in that area long term would be allowed to keep their GP as the practice would know them.

Ouer system is not perfect but it can be worked with however like any health care money is the limiation,

How can you let an overreaching government steal your hard earned money to fund an unmanageable bureaucracy that is unsustainable? Our economy will collapse, as in fold....like a cheap lawn chair.

Once again, The proposed bill, as defined, with the public option IS NOT SUSTAINABLE.

The Chinese own a huge portion of our debt, the dollar is declining in value, printing more of it is only making matters worse.

PERIOD. DO THE MATH.

Should Obama get HR3200, the full bill, past into law, the whole house of cards will fall....and NO ONE will have coverage.

Perhaps then you will see the light.

Last time I had bronchitis my family practice doctor couldn't see me for nearly a week and a half. Ended up seeing a NP inside a Walgreens.

Just made an appointment with a dermatologist. The earliest I can be seen is the first week of October.

I live in the socialist state of Texas with excellent insurance.

And?

What do you expect? Do you think that the situation is going to get better when everyone in America perceives their care to be free? You think you have to wait now? The think the ER's are flooded now?

Ha!

Wait til it's FREE!!!

PS...when the funds run out...just who do you think will be in the unemployment line?

Only the paranoids will use the unemployment line.

Those in the know will establish healthcare speakeasys.
