How we handle a bully is an act of emotional intelligence. I agree that people should not be making fun of, ridiculing, or intimidating others - but if it happens to you - I hope that the first instinct is not to punch someone in the face.

In my PICU, I was "bullied" by a certain charge nurse. She would come in to my patient's room and make snide comments about the way I approached patient care in front of parents (which was appropriate care), she would belittle me in front of other nurses and intensivists, and made up rumors about me that were not true. Sure it made me mad, but it is the way that you handle the situation that will earn you respect and build character. I pulled the nurse aside and we had a conversation about what she was doing. She still does not like me, but she leaves me alone and keeps her opinions to herself. I have not had any further problems with her at all.

Part of being a responsible, professional adult is to confront problems and handle the situation with tact and dignity. It is also important to realize the the opinion of others does not measure your self-worth. Let negative remarks make you more determined to succeed instead of tearing you down.

You got this! :D

Seriously? Come on, "bullying" is a joke! I was bullied upon, and maybe even did some a few times. We are getting to be too soft of a society. I bet your in favor of the "everybody is a winner" mentality. Yea, that will get you far. There ARE winners and their ARE loosers, there are more that are in the middle but we strive to be better. Bullying? If you can't take care of yourself then maybe you should learn and build some caracter. Besides, who gives a crap what some "bully" thinks, he or she probably is a moron who has low self esteem.

Spoken like a bully, IMHO
